Usborne Books Make A Great Childs Gift

0

kittenGreat Childs Gift

If you are looking for a great childs gift, you should consider giving the gift of a book. Robyn Demers-Ford’s Usborne Books & More Store is the easiest way I have found to order the books my sons love, besides going to a house party. “The mission at Usborne Books is to deliver educational excellence one book at a time while providing financial opportunities that foster strong family values.  They carry exceptionally high quality, beautifully illustrated, award winning children’s books and the opportunities of selling books from home.”  That is Not My Kitten is one of my sons, Jakobi’s favorite books.  I have even caught him “reading” it to my 8-month-old son, Mason, pointing out the soft belly and pulling Mason’s hand to touch the fur.  There is just something that warms my heart watching the two of them share moments like that.

Books for Toddlers and Babies

Robyn Demers-Ford’s Usborne Books & More Store features more than books for babies and toddlers.  You can find a variety of books for all ages, including multilingual, accelerated reader, and seasonal books.  Usborne features Internet Linked books as well as a reading program.  There is even a link to sign up for a chance to win $50.00 in free books under Free Drawing.

Robyn is a personal friend, and I did not get compensated for this review.

Organic Diaper Wipe Wash Recipe

0

Organic Diaper WashThis is a very simple recipe for organic wipe solution that I found that can be used on your diaper wipes.

Things You’ll Need:
* Organic olive or coconut oil**
* Lavender oil (optional)
* Tea tree oil
* Unfiltered organic apple cider or coconut water vinegar
* 1/2 liter of pure spring water

1. Empty out a 1/4 of the bottle of spring water to make room for the other ingredients.

2. Add 2 tablespoons of the coconut** or olive oil of your choice. Olive oil mixes better, but coconut oil works very well, too. You’ll have to make sure the solution is quite warm and shake it well before applying it to the wipes, if you use coconut oil. Olive oil doesn’t have much of a scent, while coconut oil makes your baby smell yummy. These oils are used as moisturizers and skin protectants.

3. Add 8 to 10 drop each of the lavender and tea tree oils. Lavender oil is mostly for the perfume, but is also a calming agent used in aromatherapy. Tea tree oil is an antiseptic that kills bacteria and viruses on the skin.

4. Add 1/2 tablespoon of organic apple cider or coconut vinegar. The vinegar acts as an anti-fungal agent, killing any candida that may have developed from moisture and heat. This helps reduce diaper rash.

5. Shake 🙂

6.  Put the wash in a spray bottle** to apple to the cloth wipes or put several wipes in a container (such as an old disposable wipes container or zippered plastic bags) and add enough solution to moisten them lightly.

Tips & Warnings

*  Because the solution is made with food-grade products, they can spoil if not handled as you would handle any other food product.
*  If you use coconut oil in the solution, don’t put it in a spray bottle. It will clog the spray nozzle when it cools down. The solution is made with natural ingredients and is not processed with heat.
*  The ingredients will separate (oil and water don’t stay mixed for long), so you’ll need to shake the solution well before each use.

**UPDATE** May 6, 2011- Non-organic lazy version

After many tries of doing it the natural organic way, I have finally settled on a very simple recipe that I make by the bottle because …I am lazy at heart, and this is that simple.

1. I use the squirt bottle they gave me at the hospital to clean my episiotomy stitch after Mason was born. Yes, I still have the bottle. Any squirt bottle will work, even an old shampoo bottle.

2. I fill it with hot water from the faucet. Bottled water is expensive. I go through it fast. I guess you could boil it if you were worried about the stuff in your water. We drink ours, so…

3. I add a very small amount of lanolin. The kind you used on your nipples when they were sore form nursing. You can get it at CVS, and it will last forever. It also doubles as a great water-proofer for your wool.  This is the reason you use a SMALL amount..like a drop or two.  Shake the bottle so it dissolves. Sometimes I use olive or coconut oil, but mostly I use lanolin because when I use it Mason get a rash less frequent.

4. I add a few drops of tea tree oil and lavender oil. I found that 8 was way too strong. I got mine at my local flea market.  Get the essential oil so it is real.

5. I add splash of coconut vinegar. It is what I have, white will work just as fine as well as apple cider. I think the coconut vinegar smells the best.

6. Shake, squirt, and wipe.

I am by no means saying this recipe is safe or is what you should do. I am just telling you what I do. I go through this solution fairly fast (weekly) and I make it fresh each week.
