Do you love delicious food as well as jaw dropping excitement for the whole family? If so, the dinner show at Arabian Nights in Kissimmee, FL is the perfect place to take the family for an evening of yum and fun. The equestrian shows at Arabian Nights have been a staple in the Kissimmee area since 1988. Mark Miller, the owner and CEO, as well as Miller’s mother, Bazy Tankersley had a vision 25 years ago to combine their love of horses with the art of show stopping bareback riding.
Mark is part of a family that has been working with Arabian horses for 70 years, and these are the very horses you will see in one of the Arabian Nights thrilling shows. For 6 years, Mark himself has ridden and performed in the show and was the acting barn manager for 2 years. Although there has been a steady decline in the world of skilled horseback trick riding, Mark has made a commitment to continue to train those riders who share his passion for the sport.
It is the mission of the Miller family to make sure the horses as well as the trainers have the best training and care available. To accomplish this, a full time vet is on staff, who is often assisted by vets from the University of Florida as well as the ASPCA. The horses are fed and watered daily, are groomed each night before the show and no horse performs for longer than 15 minutes total in any show.
The nightly shows at Arabian Nights include 60+ horses that are made up of 14 breeds. Arabian Nights has performed over 9,000 shoes to date and are seen by up to 1,200 guests per show. To make your visit even more memorable, VIP tours are available for you and your family. With the tour, you are shown the stables where the horses live and you can even have your picture taken with one of the famous horses!
The current 90 minute show at Arabian Nights is “The American Princess” and it is breathtakingly spectacular. The show takes place in the largest indoor arena of its kind. We were treated to the story that tells of a champion horseback rider, who on her 21st birthday is told she is actually a princess. The girl, along with her guardian genie, Abracadabra, travels to find a prince who loves horses as much as she. While searching for the man Princess Scheherazade is destined to be with, the audience is treated to a visually stunning array of brightly colored costumes and some of the most amazing riding stunts you will ever see. The audience is quickly caught up in the travels the two take to places all over the world including a gypsy camp where we are treated to some very complex bareback acrobatics. The Princess and her search are stalled by the evil Prince Vaneer, who of course wants the Princess all to himself. From this point in the story, we were taken on an exciting journey filled with drama mixed with the right amount of comedy, music and the remarkable riding skills of the participants of the show. We held our breath waiting to see if the loving Prince Khalid would be able to save his love from the nasty Prince Vaneer!
I got a lot of great shots, but I think the one above is my favorite. Doesn’t it look like an oil painting? I had a good time taking pictures of all the horses and riders. It was fun competing with my friends to see who could get the best action shots. The VIP tour back stage is a great place to go for horse lovers. You get to see first hand how the horses are painted, groomed, and fed.
