Are You Taking Care Of Your Teeth

Do you know if you are taking care of your teeth correctly?  Until recently, I thought the kids and I were doing what we were supposed to do when caring for your teeth.  When we recently visited the dentist and Caitlin had a few cavities, we were genuinely shocked.  Caitlin rarely eats sweets and prefers water to drink over anything sugary, yet she still got two cavities.  I was really confused and concerned on how this happened, so I spoke with the hygienist at length and she gave me some tips that I never thought were that important, but I know now they are.  Here is what she told me:

Are You Taking Care Of Your Teeth

  • Take The Time: My mother told us to be sure to brush all of our teeth and get out of the bathroom.  I thought we just had to go over our teeth quickly and we were good to go.   Turns out because we had 6 kids in the family, mom just wanted to get us all in and out as quickly as possible!  Did you know you should brush for 2-3 minutes each time your brush?  I didn’t!  Our hygienist recommended either putting a timer in the bathroom or for the kids to sing Happy Birthday at least 4 times.
  • Flossing: Flossing is extremely important and I have the hardest time getting the kids to do it.  Did you know that flossing not only gets rid of food particles you missed while brushing but also keeps your gums healthy and cuts down on plaque? If you brush your teeth and you get blood, which is a good sign you are not flossing!
  • Rinse: If you aren’t currently using an anti-bacterial mouth rinse, you should do so. When kids brush and floss, they still may not be doing an adequate job.  Our hygienist recommended a mouth rinse for my kids so that they have every base covered when it comes to good dental health.
  • How Old Is That Brush: Did you know you should replace your toothbrush every 3 months?  Did you know if you have been sick, you should replace your toothbrush after you are well?  The best brush you can use is one with soft bristles that are varied in height and has an angled handle.  Where is the best place to get yourself a great toothbrush and other items for your dental care routine? Tom’s of Maine, that’s where!  This iconic and eco-friendly company has been making high quality products for your family since 1970.

Natural Products For Your Family

As a mom, do you buy natural products for your family whenever possible?  Me too.  I have finally realized that anything me or my family puts in or on our bodies should be as natural and wholesome as the gifts nature has brought us.  With Tom’s of Main, you are assured to get just that kind of product line.  In 1968, Tom and Kate Chappell moved to Kennebunk Maine in search of a simpler life.  Included in that life was products that were all natural instead of all processed. When they couldn’t find the products they wanted, they decided to make their own and from there, Tom’s of Maine has become a trusted friend your family can go to for your health and beauty needs.  Although they became part of the Colgate-Palmolive family, their mission has never wavered: provide products that are natural and sustainable solutions to your needs.  My family was sent a great package of items from Tom’s of Maine, which included Naturally Clean Toothbrush ($3.99), Simply White Natural Whitening Toothpaste ($4.99), Wicked Fresh! Toothpaste ($4.99), Relaxing Beauty Bar ($2.99), and the Flat Floss ($2.99).  I love the Wicked Fresh toothpaste! You can totally tell the ingredients are not like what you may have used in the past.  Your teeth feel as if they are getting a good cleaning and they feel so clean and fresh after you brush!  I was also surprised at the floss because it seemed to be gentler but worked way better than what I have been using.  Want to know what I like almost as much as how clean my teeth feel after using the Tom’s of Main toothpaste?  How soft my skin feels and how awesome it smells after using the Lavender Beauty Bar!!  Even my husband complimented me on how good I smelled!  That is a testament you can’t solicit can you!?  To keep up with the latest from Tom’s of Maine you can like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
