We live in urban Tennessee where there is a lot of wonderful activities to keep us busy. We are so lucky to have the Great Smoky Mountains, lush hiking rails, rivers and creeks to explore. My kids are not just observers of nature, but rather complete participants! They love to get out there and get dirty and get the most out of a day outdoors. After a few weekend excursions to the great outdoors, we have learned to wear the best shoes for outdoor activities. If you do not have the right footwear, you can really ruin the day. How do you know what shoes are best for which activities? Refer to this list:
The Right Footwear For Your Outdoor Activity
- Hiking: Depending on the terrain, you will need the proper hiking boots. Trail shoes, with their support and higher cut are a comfortable alternative to the heavier and bulkier hiking boots.
- Walking or Running: If you are just going to do a few laps on the track, you can chose the traditional cross trainer sneakers. For a more lightweight shoe, you may want to try the minimalist shoes. They are like walking barefoot while keeping your feet protected.
- Beach: A good sandal is perfect for walking in the sand of your local beach. These are not the fashion sandal to wear with a cute sundress Rather, these are the Teva style sandals with a good sturdy rubber sole.
- Water: My kids love to play in the creeks, fountains and water parks. We had been wearing traditional water shoes, but the fabric tends to smell bad after several uses. We in turn found a great alternative with the waterproof Verona from Native Shoes.
We spend so much time in the water that I am beginning to suspect the kids are part amphibian. We have a pool and a creek on our property they are constantly playing in. We also have a public water fountain park less than 2 miles from the house we visit often. We have also been to several water parks and rivers, which are so much fun to splash around in. The issue I found with the traditional water shoes is not only did they have a horrible odor after using them several times, but they can get mold on them as well. I love the waterproof and more sanitary option with the Verona shoe from Native Shoes. We were sent the Verona in the Botanical Print in Shore Green, which sells for $60 on the Native Shoes website. I love the pastel floral print on these very comfortable shoes which are perfect for water play or wearing to school. Caitlin loves to wear them with her jeans or a sundress to school or out with friends.
The These shoes are also shock absorbent, odor free and they are super cute. We also chose the Jiffy shoe in black which sell for $50 on the native website. They are so stylish, they go with just about everything including jeans, leggings and dresses. We have worn these to the water park and walked in them all day and Caitlin said her feet felt great. She said her other water shoes hurt her feet after an hour or so, but these did not. Be sure to check into the FW14 collection, which have a ton of bold colors and styles, are lightweight, washable, waterproof and low maintenance and are available now at Zappos. Native shoes has something for the whole family and you can follow them on Twitter, and Instagram. One USA reader will win their choice of the Jiffy or Verona shoe in their choice of color ARV $55.
