Despite my sensitivity to dairy products due to lactose they are my favorite food group, so I try to find clever ways to create delicious meals which end up being close or even better than the real thing. I am sure Melissa and Lana will have several great lactose free meal options and I hope to learn more about the health benefits of keeping dairy in my diet. I know you can make awesome ice cream (which is my favorite) as I have! See my lactose free butter pecan ice cream recipe I did in February. I used LACTAID® Milk and Cottage Cheese to create it – but you can also buy LACTAID® Butter Pecan Ice Cream at your local supermarket. .
Are You Lactose Intolerant?
Lactose intolerance is NOT a cow’s milk allergy, but a sensitivity to dairy due to lactose. If you are lactose intolerant, your body doesn’t make enough lactase which is the enzyme you need to break down lactose (the milk sugar). Symptoms like gas, bloating and diarrhea can mean you are a great candidate, but always consult your doctor for a diagnosis.
If you are lactose intolerant or think you might be, you still need to get your dairy products in. Dairy products are sources of many nutrients our bodies need like calcium, protein, potassium, vitamins A and D. You can find out more about the LACTAID® Brand and National Dairy Council at the Google +hangout on November 5th! Hope to see you there!
I participated in the Google + hangout program on behalf of National Dairy Council and the LACTAID® Brand. I received product coupons from the LACTAID® Brand to facilitate my blog post.
