As a mom to three boys, I still find it amazing to hear how pregnant women are often treated in the workplace. News of ‘pregnancy discrimination’ and an approximate ‘5% per child, salary difference’ are all too common at work. It’s no wonder that a growing number of moms are all taking matters into their own hands. At my first pregnancy, when I was 18, I was fired for getting pregnant! ACK!
In a 2005 study, the U.S. Census Bureau reported roughly 2.3 million moms work from their own homes. That is a 22% increase from 1994. Not only that, but many of these mom’s are now using the internet to generate their own income.
Now, it all sounds simple, but working for yourself is not as easy as it sounds. Firstly, we’re all really busy moms and we want to be home and spend more time with the kids. So then, you’ll need a plan of action. Next, you’ll need low cost suppliers and even the knowledge of how to sell online. Finally, you’ll need to know how to keep your momentum going, so you can keep your business going. Trust me, this is a huge job! This whole story brings me to an awesome campaign which is currently running on Indiegogo.com. In case you’ve never heard of it, Indiegogo is a crowd finding site, like Kickstarter.
Basically, Someone puts up a pitch idea on the site. Then if you’re interested, you help fund the campaign by donating towards a ‘perk’. At the end of the campaign, the campaign owner build the item and delivers you the perk you bought. Here is an example of a current campaign that belongs to my friend Billy. I think you will find it interesting. He has actually been working online since 2001, and now he is teaching others how to do it as well. He has posted pictures of his online accounts in the campaign. Have a look and I think you’ll be really surprised when you see his numbers! Click the link below and you can see Billy’s campaign directly on Indiegogo! There is no upper limit for the campaign. So if you’re interested, go ahead and buy a perk!
