Optimism and hope are the strengths of youth, and the things we try hardest to hold on to as life slowly grinds us down. They are celebrated in Disney’s Tomorrowland, as a world that is slowly sinking into an intellectual and emotional quagmire is rescued by youthful exuberance and inventive spirit. Our two heroes are growing up geniuses in stifling environments, and find their limits removed by a ticket to the titular park when the greatest minds of their generations have gathered.
The sights and sounds are spectacular, and the meat of the movie takes the viewer on a rocket-fueled ride through the ways science and technology can improve our lives. The set pieces are a modern day re-imagining of our favorite futuristic section in the Disney parks of the past. We will all have to wait another generation or two before we can see if the fantastical inventions of this movie come to pass.
