Five Facts About Light Bladder Leakage You Should Know

This post brought to you by Poise at Walmart. All opinions are 100% mine.

Light bladder leakage is not something any of use want to hear about. This is a subject many women are embarrassed about and would rather sweep it under the rug. For many, this is is an issue which goes hand in hand with getting older, and no one wants to admit that is going on! As with many medical issues, knowledge is power and when we bring the facts out into the open, it then becomes something acceptable. I began to experience light bladder leakage (LBL) after the birth of my 3rd child. I had him naturally and he was almost 10 pounds, which was a determent to my bladder. Ever since he was born, I have experienced LBL when I cough, sneeze, laugh too hard or jump around. I was so ashamed to have this going on and I was not completely understanding of what was going on with my body. If you too have light bladder leakage, here are some facts about light bladder leakage you should know:

  1. Weight Gain: An increased amount of weight can put pressure on your bladder and pelvic floor and cause leakage.
  2. Menopause: A dip in estrogen, which is common in menopause, can weaken the pelvic wall and lead to LBL issues.
  3. Cigarette Smoking: Many smokers get a chronic cough, which is commonly referred to as “Smoker’s Cough”. This constant coughing can cause the bladder to leak.

I have had LBL for almost 13 years now and I can tell you it is no fun. On a recent visit to my GYN, we talked about my options for treating my LBL. My doctor said as long as the LBL was not effecting my daily life to the point where it interferes with my daily routine, medical intervention was not necessary. He suggested I wear a pad like the new Poise® Microliners,  which were popular among his patients. I am much happier to try a new product to help with my LBL than to face a surgical procedure to correct it. The Poise® Microliners, which are available at Walmart at their every day low price,  are made with SAM (super absorbent material), and are so thin and lightweight. If you want to try the Poise at Walmart make sure to download this Poise Coupon.

I must admit, when I initially took a pad from the box and unwrapped it, I was unsure how this thin pad was going to be sufficient should I have an occurrence of LBL. They are so comfortable and lightweight, you really do not even notice you are wearing them. I can leave the house for several hours and not feel I am leaving myself in the lurch should I have an accident. The SAM has been a lifesaver and in a way, has given me my life back. I am no longer worried about going out for dinner, taking the kids to the park or meeting my friends for lunch and having an accident. As long as I have my Poise® Microliners, I feel confident and secure and prepared for anything my LBL can throw at me!
