Fun Family Games To Play At Home

Fun Family Games To Play At Home

If you are a parent of young children, you may be aware of the shortage of fun family games to play at home.  Between the record breaking temperatures and unusually high number of rainy weather, my family has become hermits!  We try to take a break each week and reconnect and talk or play a family game, but we don’t always make the time.  I recently had a funny but sobering moment with my family.  My husband was at work and it was raining, so the kids and I snuggled in my bed (a.k.a. The Big Bed) and turned on a Disney movie.  I got up to get a drink and as I came back into the room, I saw that the three of us had our computers on our laps, leaning against the headboard with the television on with no one watching it! Here was a perfect opportunity to talk, or watch an iconic movie from my childhood, and yet we were glued to the computer, not really aware of our surroundings.  It made me feel a bit guilty!

When you think of family games, what company comes to your mind first?  For me, I always think of Hasbro, as that was the company that sold the games my parents bought for my sister and me.  As a parent myself, I too look for that recognizable logo that says “family fun” to me.  Did you know that the history of the Hasbro Company dates all the way back to 1923?  There were two brothers, Henry and Helal Hassenfield who started as a textile supplier who then began producing school supplies.  In 1940, the brothers introduced their first toys; a doctor and nurse kit.  I would be willing to bet a lot that virtually all of you played with that kid at some point in your childhood!  The first toy that really put the brothers on the map was the always lovable Mr. Potato Head, which was invented by George Learner in 1952.  In 1968 the brothers shortened the name of the company to Hasbro and people world-wide have trusted this company to supply us with family friendly games for all ages.  Please take a moment and like Hasbro on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Find A New Game To Love

If my family was going to be stuck inside a lot this summer, I decided to find a new game to love.  We have pretty much played out a lot of our games and we needed something new to play.  When I was offered a new game from Hasbro, I was more than willing to oblige!  Hasbro has a new game for your children named Elefun Snackin’ Safari.  If your kids have played the original Elefun game, you know how incredibly fun the game is.  When I helped with child care at our church, Elefun was one of the most popular games for the little ones and the older kids as well.  My kids are older, but I had a feeling they would enjoy the new Elefun Snackin’ Safari ($14.99).  When we opened up the game, the first thing I noticed was the familiar face from the Elefun game and how sturdy the pieces of the game were.  This is a physical game, so it is important that the pieces can hold up to kids repeated playing.  The goal of the game is for the player to collect all of their snack cards with the suction cup at the end of the Elefun’s trunk.  The game does take a bit of practice to get a feel for how to catch the cards, but very quickly the kids were laughing and competing to be the first to catch the Golden Tutti Frutti snack.  The kids played the Elefun Snackin’ Safari for almost 2 hours and for the handful of days we have had the game, they have played it at least once each day!  For more ideas for family game night, visit Hasbro Family Game Night and like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter.
