Golf Themed Cake

I love to see the excitement of Father’s Day through my kids eyes. My husband is a pretty easy to please and unassuming, so he hates us to make a fuss. Usually we cook his favorite dinner and we hang out and watch a movie or play a game. He is an avid golfer and the kids wanted to make him a fun cake this year, so I decided to put the two ideas together. When it comes to baking and using products I trust, I turn to Wilton.

Cute Father's Day Golf Themed Cake

I first learned about the Wilton products when I worked at JoAnn Fabric. We had a section devoted to Wilton and my desk was right next to it. I was always asked questions about the Wilton products, so I learned quickly how to give the right answers! I used the Wilton products in my home and I felt confident in recommending them to customers as well as friends and family. When I decided to make a Father’s Day golf themed cake for my husband, I went to the Wilton website for help. I quickly found several golf themed ideas and decided on making the Tee It Up cake. I love that everything I needed for the cake is listed on the page and I can order it online or take the list to my local retailer who carries the Wilton products. If you are not sure where to find the closest Wilton retailer to you, just type in your zip code in their online store locator and a list will pop up for you.

The supplies you need to make the Tee It Up Cake are listed on the website, but I trimmed the list down to suit my needs. We received:

  • 9 x 13 Performance Pans™ Sheet Pan – $13
  • Ready-To-Use Pastel Green Rolled Fondant – $10
  • Rolled Fondant Primary Colors Multi-Pack – $12
  • Easy-Glide Fondant Smoother – $6
  • Rotary Cutter – $6
  • Solid Color Sugar Sheets Edible Decorating Paper (white and bright green) – $4 each
  • FoodWriter™ Fine Tip Primary Colors Edible Color Markers – $9

Golf Cake

We used a white cake mix for the cake and once it was cool, we put it on a cake board I already had at home. Next, I followed the directions for the Wilton butter cream icing as it is recommended you put this icing on the cake before you put on the fondant. If you have never used fondant, there are great tutorials on the Wilton website to help you. I followed the Covering Square Cakes with Rolled Fondant directions and although I have never used it, I was happy with my first attempt. Next we took the bright green sugar sheets and made the grass to go around the base of the cake. We used the Primary Colors Multi-Pack fondant for the tees and flag and the white sugar sheets for the golf balls. We used the edible markers for the divots on the golf balls, to write the numbers on the flag and to write “Happy Father’s Day” on the cake My husband was very excited to get his cake, even though it was a few days early in order to get pictures for the post!

You can create this or your own Wilton creation with the supplies I was provided. You can make a cake for any occasion and have left over supplies for cupcakes or cookie decorating! The products from Wilton make baking fun and easy and the kids and I had the most fun making this golf themed cake for Father’s Day. Be sure to follow Wilton on Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram.
