One of my favorite dishes at the holiday season is herb dressing. My grandma always used to make it from the bread crumbs up and added fresh herbs from her garden. I have tried to grow my own herbs but I never had any real success. I tried buying the ones from the grocery store and just trimming them, but they always died from lack of water. It seems water is an important part of a plants growing process!
Now that I have an Aerogarden, I am able to have fresh herbs the whole year round. Here are a few shots of my last garden, and the one at the very bottom is form my recently planted one. I am amazed at how fast these gardens grow.
Fortunately, I have an Aerogarden which has an alarm that tells me when it needs water. It also informs me of when it needs to be fed too. The lights are automatic, so it also gets the light it needs as well. Fresh herbs all year long right at my fingertips right from my own kitchen.
This is growth from the garden I recently started and talked about in my last post: Give the gift of life. Below is the dressing I recently made using my fresh herbs from my garden!
- 1 lb. bread, cubed
- 4 T butter
- 2 medium yellow onions, diced
- 2 med celery stalks, diced
- 2 c broth
- ⅓ c fresh parsley
- 1 T fresh sage
- 1 T fresh thyme
- 2 eggs
- Let the bread dry out overnight on a cookie sheet
- Toast the bread cubes to a light golden brown
- In a skillet, soften onions and celery
- In a bowl, mix veggies, broth, fresh herbs, eggs, and salt and pepper to taste
- butter a dish and bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes
