- 8 oz of marshmallows
- 1 pound of powdered sugar
- 2 T water
- Food coloring or flavored extracts
Dust container and counter with powdered sugar. Lots!
Put marshmallows and water in a bowl. Microwave until fluffy (1 minute) and stir until they are melted and smooth. No lumps. I had to put it back in the microwave occasionally for 10 seconds.
Add sugar a little at a time until it is hard to stir. Use a rubber or silicone spatula it sticks less.
Dust your hands generously with powdered sugar and dump the sticky mixture on the counter. Now knead applying powdered sugar to your hands and counter often. Honestly, I didn’t miss with the mixture too much on the inside after a couple of kneads. I kind of just formed a ball and tucked the edges under (like a pizza dough ball) and kneaded it that way, less sticky.
Apply food coloring (wear gloves) or flavoring to the center and fold through. I like peanut butter- 2 T.
The original recipe says to keep kneading and to roll out, but I found it was too sticky. So, I wrapped it in plastic wrap and threw it in the fridge for an hour. It made it much easier to knead and roll out, and a lot less sticky.
Ta Da – You have Fondant.
Now you can store it in the fridge until you are ready to use or roll out and drape your cake or cupcakes or make candy…whatever 🙂
