How To Lose Weight When You Can’t Exercise

Hi there!  This week I am going to talk about how to lose weight when you can’t exercise.  I am on week 12 of my Medifast program and I have lost half of a pound, which brings my total weight loss to 16.5 pounds.  This week I wanted to talk about what happens if you are on a weight loss journey and are unable to exercise.  There are many reasons why someone may not be able to exercise including an injury or being too heavy to move about safely.  If you are in this group, you are probably feeling a bit hopeless and defeated, but don’t, because there are some ways you can still burn calories and boost your weight loss.  For me, I tore two ligaments in my right foot and I have been in a walking cast for the past 5 weeks.  I can’t walk very well, let alone exercise, so I wanted to see what I could do until I am free of this cast.  With my being on Medifast, I have a head start on weight loss as it is designed to help me achieve weight loss to begin with.  The next step was for me to find a few ways I could boost my metabolism and it is easier than I thought!  Here are some great suggestions I found and I wanted to share them with you in the event you are in the same boat I am!

  • Get yourself a set of 1 pound and 3 pound hand weights and look up some simple upper body exercised you can perform.  If you can stand, do so, but if you cannot, it is ok.  You can sit in a chair and do the exercised from there.
  • Exercise bands are also a really great way to burn calories and you can easily do the exercises in your home.  By securing a band to a sturdy item, like a bed or door knob, you can perform several upper body exercises.
  • Make an exercise routine that uses your body as your resistance tool.  You can create an entire exercise routine that uses no equipment!  There are several good exercises you can do without weights, bands, weighted balls or anything else.  When done properly, using only your own muscles in a slow and purposeful manner will help you burn those calories!
