Make your own gummy worms

My boys love gummy worms. They also love to craft and help me cook. I knew they would have a blast making their own gummy worms. You can get a kit that includes everything you need from Glee Gum. Make Your Own Gummy Worms

Materials Needed (all included in the kit)

  • Colored, flavored sugar
  • Powdered seaweed (agar and carrageenan)
  • Sour mix
  • Seaweed
  • Water
Soak the seaweed in small dish of water.
Empty powdered seaweed in to a microwavable glass with 1/2 cup water.
Remove the seaweed piece from the water and add it to the powdered seaweed
Heat mixture at high for 2 minutes or until foams at 30-second intervals
Lift seaweed out of the bowl and discard. Look at the clear gel around the seaweed. That is carrageenan.

Stir in the colored sugar and microwave for a  minute or until it foams.
Suck the mixture through a straw making sure you do not suck up the liquid all the way to the top

Place straws in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes
Push the gummy worms out of the end of the straw once they have firmed up

  3. The Glee Gum website is down, under maintenance. So i read everyone else’s fun fact. I did not know that it was owned by women or that you could chew gum to reduce tears while cutting onions.
