Making Tooth Brushing Fun For Toddlers #SpinBrushCFK

Brushing your teeth is a pretty a important habit to teach your kids. My kids usually moan, groan and run from me when it is time to do the tooth chore. However, they both have reached the age where I thought a fun chore chart might come in handy. When I was little I loved checking things off and attaining short term goals. It made me feel good to accomplish something and it taught me that if you worked for something hard every day, you are rewarded. With tooth brushing you are rewarded with clean teeth and fewer trips to the dentist! The chart we made was pretty simple and by allowing the kids to get involved further by decorating, they were more vested into the chore.

Tooth Brush Chore Chart – Making Tooth Brushing Fun For Toddlers

Materials

  • Paper
  • Fun decorating items like stickers, fuzzy balls, google eyes, craft sticks
  • Glue Stick
  • Pen or markers
Instructions
Create a chore chart with the days of the week. If you have two children, make a row for each. As you can see we got a little more elaborate with the one on top and for plainer days (or when the kids don’t want to decorate) you can just hand do it yourself on a grocery list paper.

This is our first week to see how it would go. I put each of their names on a side and let them pick what they wanted to do when they filled up the sheet. Isn’t it great when you have little kids and the reward can be that we “color a dinosaur or butterfly picture” My kids are after my own thrifty heart. Every time the boys brush their teeth they get to stamp the paper (twice a day) and then a third stamp for taking their vitamin. So far so good. Another great idea I had to get them into brushing was to get toothbrushes that spin. I figured this would make it easier for them to get all the places they can reach easier and make brushing more fun. Mommy has one so they like to be like me!

Oral Care Spin into Action Spinbrush

We went to Walmart to get our Arm & Hammer Spin brush. We actually set out to get any ol’ spin brush, but we chose Arm & Hammer because of the cool characters they had of Spiderman and Captain America! I mean if a Superhero does not make brushing fun, I do not know what does. Walmart makes it really easy to find the toothbrushes in their store by placing a super-hug sign right above the aisle.

Champions for Kids Simple Service Project

Now, all of the above post writing was my thought process before I came across the Champions for Kids Simple Service Project. It is a project to get all of your family and friends to gather toothbrushes, toothpaste and other dental care items for children. I have been doing a lot lately to teach my kids about charity, and how important it is to give to others who are not as fortunate as us. It just so happens a friend of a friends house burnt down and they are a family left with nothing. Three kids and not a thing. I could not even imagine if that would have happened to my family. It sounded like they needed some superhero in their lives. We also have a local church that my Grandma attends that takes donations and supports the surrounding community in several ways. I knew they could use some fun tooth brushing supplies as well. So off to Walmart we went.

The last time I went, I purchased the Captain America and Spiderman tooth brushes for my kids, so this time we were purely shopping for others. I thought these Arm & Hammer Spin Brushes were pretty neat. It allows the kids to decorate the toothbrushes however they want. Kind of like our chore chart above. There is something to be said about personalizing an item to make it more important to you.

I selected several toothbrushes, including duplicates of the ones my kids had. I knew the kids who had the fire like superheros and would appreciate the fun characters! I also grabbed some toothpaste, dental picks, and plackers to add to the donation mix. You can see my whole path to purchase in my Google Plus post. Now it is time to rally my family and friends to gather even more supplies for our donation.

In the meantime, my kids are happily practicing good tooth brushing habits thanks to their own Arm & Hammer Spin Brushes. You can connect with Champions for Kids on Twitter and Facebook and with Sprinbrush/Arm&Hammer on Facebook and Twitter as well.

I am a member of the Collective Bias™ Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias™ and Champions for Kids #CBias #SocialFabric However, we already owned the Spin Brushes by Arm & Hammer and were not compensated for that purchase. Seems like I was already a true fan!
