It doesn’t matter how small you are, you can still make a difference if you try. A lesson we all can take away from Ant-Man. The comparatively tiny offspring of the Marvel movie universe was looking up at colossal box office returns from his Avenger compatriots. Ant-Man delivers an origin story full of heart and style to those who appreciate the smaller things in life.
If you have put off going to the theaters to see it, it means you’re not rubber stamping every comic book hero with a pair of tights. You want some steak to go with all that sizzle. With roots reaching back to the formation of the original Avengers, Ant-Man’s tale of the transition of the titular technology into new hands will keep the historians happy. They accomplish it all on a smaller scale, and Paul Rudd’s affable hero gets by on cunning and charisma instead of bravado and brutality. Still, everyone loves a good laugh.
As a society who seems destined to see all of the Marvel universe movies eventually, we should enjoy the fleshing out of the characters which is allowed by the smaller features. These heroes have rich back stories provided by years of comic book canon, much of which is glossed over in the tent pole blockbusters. The viewer is expected to bring with them a cursory knowledge of the material which will be covered. Assisting those of us who are visual learners, Ant-Man’s measured pace only serves to enhance our enjoyment of the other films.
