Medicine Alternatives For Colds In Children

When Your Child Has A Cold

It’s always so pitiful when your child has a cold!  You know they just feel as awful as they look!  With their runny red noses and their Snuffleupagus sounds they make, you just want to wrap them in a camphor blanket and sweat that cold right out!  I hate giving my kids medicine, especially Henry.  At the age of 11, I can count on one hand how many successful attempts I have had in giving him medicine.  It breaks my heart to watch him suffer, but then I want to hold him down, sit on his chest and make him take that which will make him feel better.  I wanted to find some Medicine Alternatives For Colds. I found a few home remedies that have worked, and I wanted to share them with you.

  • Fluids:  I know we have heard it over and over again, but you need to get those kids to drink.  Water is the best option, but juices and soups are also a good choice.  Caffeine will dehydrate you when you are sick, so stay away from that.
  • Blow: I keep on my kids when they are sick about snuffing their noses and wiping their noses with their hands or sleeves.  You should have plenty of tissues and encourage your kids to blow their noses often.
  • Steam: There is something to be said about good old steam to open up your nasal passages!  When we were growing up my mom never used store bought decongestants.  She would put pots of water in our rooms so that we would keep from being stopped up, especially in the winter.  Another great alternative is to use an electric humidifier to keep the air moist and help with your sniffles.  I was reminded about using a humidifier for Henry since he would not take any medicine for his cold.  A great company that has become well known for their adorable yet effective humidifiers is Crane-USA.  This trendsetter has put themselves directly on THE map for a high quality product line that is geared to make your life better.

Medicine Alternatives For Colds In Children

There are many Medicine Alternatives For Colds In Children. I had forgotten all about using a humidifier for colds for my kids. My friend has a child with special needs and she has a tough time getting her daughter to take medicine as well.  She told me her mom suggested a humidifier and she then passed that reminder on to me.  Crane-USA has a line of humidifiers that are delighting parents and children for a long time!  The ingenuity behind this line of cute characters is far above any other product of its kind.  The humidifiers are fashioned after a cast of characters, cool teardrop shapes and even SpongeBob and Hello Kitty.  We were given the cutest guy around; Merlin the Red Dragon Cool Mist Humidifier ($45.99).  Henry could not wait to try Merlin out when he arrived and when he saw the steam came out of his nose like a “real” dragon, he was over the moon with excitement.  This is unlike any other humidifier I have used before.  It is really quite, which is surprising for the steady stream coming out of Merlin.  Merlin has a 1 gallon tank which will run for 24 hours, uses a miniscule amount of energy, has a safety shut off valve and it will absolutely quiet your child’s cough and breathing so they can get a good night’s sleep.  I saw a vast improvement in Henry’s coughing with just one night’s use of Merlin.  I was shocked to see how quickly the Crane USA humidifier worked.  This has been a huge blessing to our family and I could not say enough about how awesome this product is.

One reader will win a Crane USA humidifier ($45.99).
