Nickelodeon Universe collage 1

We live less than a half hour from the Mall on America in Bloomington, MN, so we’re there quite often just to shop.  We’d been to the amusement park years ago, but that was before they updated it and changed it to Nickelodeon Universe, so we were very excited to have the opportunity to spend a day there riding the rides!

Nickelodeon Universe is at the center of the Mall of America.  It’s an entire amusement park – all indoors!  They have over 20 rides for kids and adults of all ages, and they’re all based on popular Nickelodeon or Nicktoons characters.  With everything from rides for small children to scream-inducing roller coasters, they really have something for everyone.  Also, since each ride has a point value, they have many different ways to purchase ride tickets.  You can purchase individual points, point packages, or unlimited ride wristbands.  You can also add on miniature golf or ropes course passes.

I took my son and two of his friends, as well as a friend of mine.  Since the kids are older (12-13), we were able to go on the larger rides.  Our favorites were Brain Surge, where you control how much your car spins upside down or backwards, the Avatar Airbender, which spins you while rocking back and forth up to 70 feet in the air, and the Spongebob Squarepants Rock Bottom Plunge, which is a roller coaster that literally takes you up the first hill at a 90° from the ground, and then drops you straight down and around crazy twists and turns.

We had so much fun that day!  We went on a Sunday of a long weekend, and the lines weren’t bad.  It was nice to have the unlimited ride wristbands, which allowed us to go on whichever rides we liked best over and over again.  The atmosphere is great – there’s really a sense of fun and family.  We also spent time in the arcade as well as the unique shops inside the park.  The wristbands are reasonably priced at $29.95 per person, and you can ride as many times as you can squeeze into that day.

If you’re in town visiting, Nickelodeon Universe is a must for families.  If you’re local, it’s the perfect way to beat the winter blues, or a great place to throw a birthday party.  With the entire roof a skylight, it almost seems like you’re spending time outdoors, even when it’s snowing outside!  It’s a great way to spend the day.  They’ve done a great job of making sure that people of any age can have a great time, and I know the kids (as well as myself) really had tons of fun.  If you’ve never been to an indoor amusement park, then you have to check this out.  You’ll be amazed by how much they can do indoors!  We’ll be back soon – it was definitely one of the best times we’ve had.
