When I was growing up, we had dogs around us all the time. My mom raised and showed dogs, and we owned several as well. We had a dog that was so big, my sister and I would ride him around the living room when we were 4 or 5! What a great dog Sean was and we have never had one quite like him since! We all know dogs need to get their exercise to stay healthy and depending on where you live, that can sometimes be a challenge. When you have a dog, you need to let them do more then go outside to use the bathroom and come right back in. They need to run, stretch their legs, catch a few balls or frisbees and chase a few birds or squirrels. We have a pretty big yard, but it is not fenced in and it is off a major road, so it is not safe for Ringo to play in. Luckily, we have a fantastic dog park nearby and we always load up on supplies.
What To Take To The Dog Park
If you have a dog, here is a great list of what to take to the dog park:
- Leash: If course a must have item for a walk in the dog park is a comfortable and well made lease. This gives them the protection they need so they do not run off and get hurt.
- Water: This is the number one item to bring, especially if you are out in the hot weather. Dogs can get dehydrated just like humans, so they need to be hydrated regularly. If you can, bring cold water with you because it is just as refreshing to them as it is to us.
- Toys: What dog does not like a good toy to chase around or chew on? I try to remember to bring both a chewy toy as well as something I can throw and Ringo can run after and bring back to me (like that happens lol).
- Snacks: If you have kids, you most likely pack a little snack bag for them in case they get hungry. All that running around can certainly work up an appetite. Well, doggies get hungry too, especially with all the exercise they get, so be sure to bring them a little treat when you are out as well. So, where do you go to get all these goodies for your dog when you take him out? For my family, we love Planet Dog because they have what we need and their products are very well made and quite affordable.
To be honest, taking Ringo to the dog park is as much fun for us as it is for him. The kids love to take turns walking him and playing with him. Henry loves to give him his snacks because it tickles the palm of his hand when he feeds Ringo! Because Ringo is a playful and pretty darn strong little guy, I need to be sure anything I buy for him is going to last more than a few hours. I have certainly gotten toys for him that after a few good chews or tugs, it was in tatters. That is why when I am looking for what to take to the dog park, I like to shop at Planet Dog.
I was recently sent several items from Planet Dog that I cannot live without (and neither can Ringo for that matter). I am all about going green, so any chance I have to put food or snacks in that is reusable is my first choice. With the travel/reusable dog bowls and storage bags, I get the convenience and quality I need. I keep the One The Go Feedbag ($16.95) in the trunk so I can just open it and put a handful of treats ($6.95) or food in the On The Go Snack Sack ($12.95) and seal it back up. He LOVES his Orbee Tuff Mazee ($16.95) because we hide some of his treats in it and he will roll that thing all over the place! It is hilarious to see him try and get one of his little doggie bones out of there! You can find collars, leashes, treats, travel items, toys, bones, chews and a ton other other cool doggie things at Planet Dog. The company opened its doors in 1997 and is one of the leaders in the industry and is well known and respected for their socially responsible practices and extremely well made products. The company has a philanthropic side with their Planet Dog Foundation which has given over $800,000 in monetary and product donations to worth animal causes since 2012. You can purchase the Planet Dog products directly from their website.
