Quality Baking Ingredients
When I am in the kitchen, I try to use quality baking ingredients. Now that the nation is predominantly obese, it is more important than ever to find healthier alternatives to the food we eat. My family loves to be together in the kitchen trying out new recipes and finding healthier versions of favorite meals. We love to make homemade pizza and we prefer to make our own rather than buying store bought crust. We have found pizza crusts made with whole wheat flour, but they are pricey and we don’t have the extra money to buy it, even though it is better for you. I began searching the internet to find better ingredients.
King Arthur Flour is one of the nation’s premier and oldest flour companies. Back in 1790 Boston, Henry Wood began importing quality flour from Europe for the people who were living in the United States, which had recently been formed. In 1896 Wood’s flour business took on the name of King Arthur Flour and was debuted at the Boston Food Fair. Fast Forward to 1984 and the then owners Frank and Brinna Sands moved the operations to Vermont, where they have been ever since. Over the years, King Arthur Flour began to add new products to their already high quality inventory. Today you can find a vast offering of anything from their original flour, to delicious and good for you baking mixes, like cakes and cookies. You can even purchase excellent baking tools and pans as well as flavored flour like hazelnut and sour dough. Whatever your baking needs, you are almost guaranteed you will find it at King Arthur Flour. To learn more about King Arthur Flour, you can like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
Healthy Pizza Dough
With my family loving to make things from scratch, we were ready to find healthier pizza dough. When I learned that King Arthur Flour carried all the healthy ingredients we needed, I was very excited to try out some of their products. What I love about King Arthur Flour is that I can literally find everything I need to be a successful amateur baker. I was sent a 5 lb. bag of White Whole Wheat Flour ( $4.95), a 5 lb. bag of All Purpose Unbleached Flour ( $4.95), one 16 oz. box of Whole Flax Meal ($ 4.95) and one 16 oz. box of Whole Flax Seed ($ 4.95). My contact at King Arthur Flour, Allison, sent me a link for a Flax Seed Pizza Dough, which is just one of many recipes you can find on the King Arthur Flour website. I had never cooked with flax seed, but I had heard about its many health benefits. Flax seed provides essential fatty acids that elevate your good cholesterol while lowering the bad. It also is high in fiber, and at 2.2 grams of fiber per teaspoon, you can get closer to your goal of 14 mg. of fiber you need each day. The kids were not very excited to use the flax seed in the pizza crust, so we only used the ground flax seed and left the whole seeds out. The crust came out light and fluffy and delicious. The kids made most of the crust themselves and we were pleasantly surprised at how easy to recipe was to follow and how delicious the crust was. We are making cookies next!
One reader will win one 16 oz. box of Whole Flax Meal ($ 4.95), one 16 oz. box of Whole Flax Seed ($ 4.95) and two coupons to be redeemed for 2 bags of King Arthur Flour ($4.95 each).
