Change The Look Of A Room
I love finding different ways I can change the look of a room. It is almost like a challenge to find new life for items or discover something that has potential when no one else could. I love to go to flea markets and thrift stores in search of that one unique item that its previous owner no longer had a use for. You know what they say…one man’s trash…I am always interested in learning new ideas for a quick change for a room. While I was perusing the internet for tips, I found a few really good ones:
- Paint: It is amazing what a little bit of paint can do for a room! I am not talking about painting the whole room, but rather choosing an item that could use a bit of a face lift. I have been called the queen of the spray paint can because I will spray just about anything that gets in my way!! When I moved into my new house, we couldn’t afford to buy a bunch of furniture, so we decided to take a few key pieces and change up the colors. We got a lot of compliments on those!
- Mirrors: If you want a new dimension in a room, get yourself a mirror. You can make a small space seem larger and a dull room brighter. You should take a look at the flea markets and thrift stores for mirrors that are still intact but need a little love. You can always touch up the frame with paint or stain.
- Rugs: One of the easiest and fastest ways to change the look of a room is with a rug. It is amazing how dramatic the impact can be just by laying down a new carpet or area rug. The great thing about rugs is they can cover up blemishes in your carpets and flooring. I recently found a really innovative company that has developed a unique product that is changing the way we think about rugs. Ruggable is a two piece system for a washable rug and it is turning the industry on its ear!
I have never heard of area rugs that can be washed, but to my surprise, there is such a thing! When I heard about the Ruggable 2-piece Rug System, I could not believe it. Not only do I have older carpets in my house, but I have allowed red kool aid in the hands of my kids, one too many times. I swear I have a hundred little red stains in the playroom! When Jeneva and Sarah, two long-time friends were talking about how difficult it was to clean an area rug and wouldn’t it be great if you could just toss it in the washing machine? Well, these two clever women came up with an idea that took a conventional rug and split it into 2 pieces; the top carpet piece and the bottom pad which the rug would stick to.
When I received my pink Plush Shag ($100.00) and pad ($20.00) I was ready to put it in my bedroom. All you do is lay out the pad with the sticky/Velcro type up and place the carpet onto it and press into place. The great thing is that the carpet adheres to the pad like nobody’s business! There is no way the 2 pieces are going to separate unless you physically do. True to form, the very first night I had the rug; Henry spilled orange Jell-O on the rug. All I had to do was separate the 2 pieces and throw the carpet into the washing machine. It was like a Christmas miracle I tell you!! These two women have changed the way I look at rugs and I am so glad for it!!
One reader will win a 3×5 Plush Shag ($100) and pad ($20.00) in their choice of color (based on availability)
