Skylanders Trap Team

This post is sponsored by Frito-Lay, but all opinions are my own. Do you have a Skylanders fan in your house? I not only have a Skylanders fan, but I have a full blown fanatic! My son Henry is about as crazy over the Skylanders toys, games and characters as I was about the Monkees in my day! Henry has a ton of the figurines, the interactive game for the Xbox 360, clothing, board games and a plethora of other paraphernalia. When it comes to anything you ever wanted to know about the Skylanders but were afraid to ask, just see Henry and he will set you straight!

Frito Contest

Currently Frito-Lay and Skylanders are working together on an exciting new contest. Their “Choose and Name a New Hero” contest is a super fun contest where you can vote for your favorite of 3 finalists in the new Skylanders Trap Team™ video game coming this fall. In February, Skylanders fans were asked to choose from three potential heroes they wanted to see come to life in the new game. Once they decided on the hero, the contestants were then asked to submit a name and in 200 characters or less, the inspiration for where the name came from.

A panel of qualified judges, which included executives from both Frito-Lay and Activision, chose 3 finalists from almost 20,000 submissions. Now that is where you come in! Fans 13 years and older get to vote for the hero you like best and the winner will appear on the Skylanders packaging and in the Skylanders Trap Team™ video game, which is set for release on 10/5/2014. The contest goes through June 13th and the finalist who receives the most votes will be awarded a $100,000 scholarship.

The three Skylanders Trap Team™ hero finalist names and their fan-submitted inspirations are:

  • “Bat Spin”: Submitted by Kimberly Josey from Charlotte, N.C., is a witch tasked with saving the underworld from trolls to prove worthy of joining the Skylanders heroes.
  • “Flip Wreck”: Submitted by Noel Foster from Clearwater, Fla., is imagined as half-dolphin and half-shipwreck, unlike any Skylanders the world has ever seen.
  • “High Five”: Submitted by Phylicia Nakamoto from Elk Grove, Calif., is the fifth son of the Royal High Flying Dragonflies. Famous for his great speed, this hero can fly higher and faster than any other dragonfly in Skylanders.

Party Package

To celebrate the promotion, fans will receive $10-off coupons for Skylanders SWAP Force™ Starter Packs in specially marked packs of Frito-Lay Classic Mix and Flavor Mix 20-count variety packs. My family received a few of these bags, which lasted about a day with my kids sharing with everyone in the neighborhood! We also received a huge box filled with clothing, party favors, Skylanders figures, the Interactive game for Xbox 360 and party supplies. We will be hosting a Frito-Lay and Skylanders party next week to celebrate the voting phase of the contest! We are going to make these really cool cake pops and Henry and I have been pouring over Pinterest for fun party ideas and games to play! I cannot wait to share the party details with you in an upcoming post!

One USA reader will win a Skylanders prize pack valued at $50
