South Seas Island Resort on Captiva
From the minute we drove through the gates of the South Seas Island Resort on Captiva, Florida, we felt like we were in paradise. We currently live in Southwest Florida year round but very rarely make the short trip over to Sanibel and Captiva and if we do, it’s only for a few hours to go to the beach. I was giddy with excitement pulling into South Seas Friday afternoon knowing we would be there the whole weekend! We arrived to the resort around noon, several hours before check-in, and were pleasantly surprised at all the activities that kept us busy until our room was ready at 4pm. Since we arrived around lunchtime, we decided to head over to The Ships Store located near the Marina to have lunch. We enjoyed delicious subs, chips and drinks at a picnic table over looking the water and the huge beautiful yachts in the Marina. Not only did The Ships Store have made to order subs, freshly made side dishes and cold drinks, they also offered groceries, magazines and souvenirs all in one convenient location!
Best Resort Pool in Florida
After a delicious lunch, we headed over to enjoy one of the best resort pools in Florida! Once the kids saw the zero entry pool with the two huge water slides, we knew we could easily spend the rest of the day right there enjoying the water! There were three large pools to enjoy, two overlooking the water and one kid friendly pool with the great water slides. There were lots of comfortable beach chairs and umbrellas so that my husband and I could relax while overlooking the kids play in the water. After going up and down the water slides for what seemed like hours, the kids wanted to explore the other pool. Both pools were very kid friendly, one with gradual steps and the other zero entry. What I loved about these pools is that there was an area for children to play but also a deeper area that the adults seemed to hang out in, giving everyone space to enjoy what they wanted to do! There were private poolside cabanas to rent for the day with TVs, couches, even pack and plays for the kids! There were also a large number of comfortable beach chairs to rest in, some just feet from the water with amazing views of Pine Island Sound! There was a pool bar just inches from the pool stocked with a variety of cold drinks. We even saw a manatee swim by as we were waiting for our drinks!
Check In Time
When it was South Seas Island Resort check in time, we received a call from the front desk letting us know our room was ready. We were surprised at how quickly the afternoon had passed and how much fun we were having. We headed back to the room for a quick shower and then dinner. There are several restaurants on the grounds of the resort including The Point (located by the pool on a covered patio serving sandwiches, burgers and salads), Harbourside Bar and Grill (overlooking the Marina and open for breakfast and dinner serving fresh catch, pasta, delicious sides and signature cocktails) and Holy Smoke Heavenly Barbeque and Better Burgers (featuring Carolina and Texas style meats and sides), just to name a few! Since my husband loves barbeque and we were looking for a more casual atmosphere with our children, we opted for Holy Smoke Heavenly Barbeque. We chose the Family Meal and were overwhelmed with the amount of delicious food and dessert! The $9 bucket of beer also put a smile on our sun kissed faces! Although this resort is so large, there is a convenient trolley service that drops off at different points on the resort. We took the open air trolley to dinner and it was so easy and convenient!
Southwest Florida Family Resort
South Seas Island Resort is by far one of the best Southwest Florida family resorts. There are plenty of options to keep families busy during their stay. One thing we took advantage of during our stay was Skully’s Family Interactive Center. This was a large building with an activity room for the kids and an arcade! There was also a mini golf area in front of the building along with cornhole. We stopped by here early Satruday morning on our walk around the resort and the kids had a blast playing putt-putt! There are plenty of activities for children of all ages, including Sanibel Sea School, Swimtastic Swim School and Mermaid Camp and Kids Night Out! One fun activity they had going on while we were there was called “ScoutAbout”. ScoutAbout was an interactive scavenger hunt that took you all over the resort looking for different colored bracelets. Once the kids collected all 15, they returned them to the Family Interactive Center for a prize. It was a great way to explore while having fun and spending time with family!
Luxury Resorts in Florida
South Seas Island Resort is one of the top luxury resorts in Florida. South Seas Island Resort offers different types of accommodations including resort rooms, villas and private homes. We stayed at Harbourside at The Point and were very impressed with our room. The décor of the room was beautiful with an amazing view of the Marina. We spent both nights out on the balcony enjoying the view with a glass of wine. It was perfect! The bathroom had huge soaking tub which my children loved. The room had all the comforts of home including a huge king sized bed, small refrigerator, flat screen TV and iPhone compatible radio. The room was large enough to comfortably sleep my husband and I as well as my two small children. Parking was conveniently located right outside our room!
Romantic Weekend Getaway
If you are looking for a romantic weekend getaway in Florida, look no further than South Seas Island Resort. We really had the best of both worlds staying at this resort. The first half we got to spend with our children enjoying all the resort has to offer and the second half we got to spend the enjoying the quiet romantic side of the resort. After the children left Saturday, my husband and I headed out for a walk around the resort. There was a paved trail that let all along the water near the Marina and through the resort. The grounds were immaculately maintained and every detail was taken into account! After dinner, we enjoyed a glass of Champagne and a delicious chocolate cake for dessert at the Harbourside Bar and Grill. Sleeping in our huge plush king sized bed was the perfect end to our night! The next morning we took the trolley down to Sunset Beach to enjoy Mother’s Day. As we stepped onto the sugary white sand, we were escorted over to beach chairs and an umbrella to lay and enjoy the amazing view of the gulf.
