For as long as I can remember, my mother suffered from arthritis, especially in her hands. This was absolutely heartbreaking as mom was such an active woman who baked, was in a bowling league and sewed all of our dresses by hand. Over the years, we saw her give up the things she loved to do be cause it was just too painful to participate in them anymore. She wore a brace, did lots of therapy and was on several medications to help lessen the swelling and joint pain. My older sister suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis, which is a lifelong disease of your immune system which leads to inflammation of your joints. The symptoms can include pain, swelling, fatigue, weakness, and stiffness, especially in the morning. It can eventually lead to the loss of physical function and permanent joint damage. Because my sister works on computers all day, it has been excruciating for her to even do her job, which she loves. I have arthritis in my lower back which is horribly painful and have had surgery to remove it from my shoulder.

arthritis facts

This is an overview of the symptoms and treatment for arthritis. These include the two major types, which are Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis. Thankfully, through early detection, education and treatment, many of the forms and symptoms of arthritis can be managed. The Arthritis Foundation and Healing Hands For Arthritis, has helped raise millions of dollars through their Helping Hands For Arthritis (#HH4A) program. Since 2011, Massage Envy is donating $10 from every one hour massage and facial session to HHFAOne for one day in September. This year the service donations will be on September 17. To help spread the word, there will be a #HH4A Twitter Party on September 4th. This program is a wonderful way to help people gain knowledge about this debilitating disease.
