taste of home

When I am cooking dinner for my boys, I can’t help but think back to the meals my mother used to cook for me when I was a kid. I remember the smells wafting down from the stove high above my head. Even today, the smell of chicken soup or other dishes brings the taste of home to my tongue. I want them to have the same fond memories when they grow up and have their own families. I’m always looking for great flavors and tastes to add to my kitchen cupboard, and I’ve put a few together here to share with you!

taste of home

  • Grow Your Own Food: I love to garden! Nothing says taste of home to me like tomatoes that I watched grow from a seed and watered every day. My boys get to pick them for me, and I love to take them from their proudly outstretched hands. I use my own homegrown ingredients in everything from salads to herb dressing, and my boys learn valuable lessons like conservation and a healthy respect for nature.

  • Pass It On: I took a $0.99 pack of index cards to my mother’s house to copy her favorite recipes. She had them on old, dog-eared cards in her own handwriting which she copied from her mother. I do my best to recreate them for my boys, and I’m getting closer every time! I don’t think they’ll show up someday with a pack of index cards, but a mom can dream. Can’t she?
  • Finding Your Taste Of Home: Not everything at your local supermarket will live up to Mom’s standards, but some do clear the bar. Tasty sides from Knorr round out my pantry’s produce, and help complete my homemade meals. A variety of recipes to suit a varied palette, and my favorite is the chipotle chicken pasta. The boys gobble it up, and it’s easy to whip up quick when I’m running behind schedule. They have something for everyone. It brings our family together in a way that gets me choked up. A lot like this story:
