With the New Year upon us, it is time to talk about the benefits of walking for exercise. For me, walking has always been the best form of exercise for me. With the issues I have with my back, many other forms of exercise won’t work for me. What I love about walking is that you don’t need a ton of equipment or preparation to get started. All you need is a good pair of shoes and comfortable clothes and you are good to go. To be in good physical health, you need to follow a well -balanced diet and walk for 30 minutes each day. That’s all!!! The benefits of walking are numerous, so I wanted to highlight the most beneficial for your overall health as well as any equipment you may need:
The Benefits Of Walking For Exercise
- Physical Health Benefits: We know that walking will help you stay in shape but there are more benefits that are considered more important. By walking 30 minutes a day, you will lower your risk for heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, arthritis and high blood pressure. In addition to these health risks, walking can also prevent bone degeneration and osteoarthritis as well as keeping your muscles and joints working at their top capacity.
- Mental Health: If you have been feeling blue or a bit down with the post-holiday feelings, walking can help! Regular exercise has been proven to reduce anxiety and depression as well as boosting your mood levels. When you are in a good mood, you are equipped to handle stress better, feel more energetic, builds your self-esteem and if you are walking with a buddy, you can give your social life a boost as well!
- Equipment: Luckily, you don’t need much to get started walking. When I walk, I bring my MP3 player with me and try to change up where I walk. If you have a nice park or walking trails nearby, that is perfect for your daily jaunt. If not, you can just walk through your neighborhood. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water to keep hydrated. The only other item you need is a good pair of shoes, because without them, you can actually cause damage from walking in the wrong shoes. I recently found out about a new shoe company called Therafit that was started by Dr. Lisa Masterson, who you may recognize from the popular television show “The Doctors”. You can stay up todate with Therafit by liking them on Facebook and following them on Twitter.
Good Walking Shoes For Women
The reason I love the concept Dr. Lisa came up with is because good walking shoes for women are different from those for men. We are built differently and therefore cannot be put in a box as far as our needs. I also appreciate the Therafit Shoe four principals of Comfort, Customer, Charity and Community and you can tell that from their motto, “Make Your Whole Body Happy”. I have always said you can tell the character of a person by their works in their community and to others on the planet. Dr. Lisa is dedicated to creating a complete wellness for women that goes far beyond a great pair of shoes. The shoes have a patented technology will makes the Therafit shoe one that is designed to fit a woman’s foot perfectly. Not only do the shoes fit fantastic, they look awesome! I chose the Deborah in Black ($95.00) and they fit like no other pair of shoes I have every worn. When I put the shoes on, I was surprised at how comfortable they felt right away. I wore the shoes off and on for about a week before I wrote this post and I have not gotten one blister or sore spot like I have with other shoes. These are by far one of the most comfortable walking shoes. What is really cool is that the National Posture Institute endorses these shoes and with their patented Personalized Comfort System, you can adjust the protection and cushion level that works best for you. You will love the fact that with each shoe purchased from Therafit, the company will make a donation to a charity of the customer’s choice. Don’t you love that? If you are looking for an incredible pair of shoes that will carry you through your busy day with comfort and support, Therafit is the perfect choice.
