Millions of people nationwide suffer from bad breath, which is an embarrassment at the minimum and a sign of a serious health condition at its worst.   1. Limit Consumption of Certain Foods: Garlic and onions are bad breath offenders that most people are aware of, but there are other foods that you may be more surprised to know can affect your mouth odor. Meat is one of these items, as the elements it contains are particularly attractive to reproductive bacteria and known for lingering, getting lodged between teeth, collecting at your gum-line, and even working their way beneath your fillings or crowns. Adhering to a low carb diet can also work against your fresh breath efforts, as this can lead to ketosis – a condition that causes bad breath.
  4. Be Diligent About Brushing and Flossing: Don’t forget about the fundamentals of mouth care – brush twice a day and floss once. Be sure to brush your tongue as well – especially the back of it – as its rough surface is especially attractive to food debris, bacteria, dead cells and other material that can contribute to foul smelling odors.
  5. Drink Lots of Water: If you’re dehydrated you will often get dry mouth, a common origin of this condition. Make sure you consume lots of water during the day and rinse your mouth with plain water after eating in order to get rid of leftover food particles that can otherwise lead to foul smells.
