Handmade Gift Ideas

Finding The Perfect Gift

I have a heart for art and love to find new handmade gift ideas.  For me, that is the easiest way to finding the perfect gift. I am one of those moms who frame her kid’s art and love to give them a lot of encouragement in their creative process.  My oldest daughter Chelsea graduated with a graphic art degree and she is a wonderful artist as well.  I know you may think I am partial because she is my daughter, but she has sold her art so I think that moves her into the artist category!  It is Chelsea who I always have in mind when looking at handmade gifts.  She has such a get eclectic taste that is makes it easy and difficult to buy for her at the same time!  Here are some great tips when looking for the right gift for the person on your list.

  • Think about the person you are buying for.  Even a secret Santa gift can be personal even if you don’t know the recipient very well.  Does your recipient ride bikes, paints flowers, or wears unusual jewelry?  If you can find something unique about the person, buying a thoughtful gift will be easier than you thought.
  • If the gift is for a friend or family member, do they have a Facebook or Twitter account?  If so, stalk them!  Well, a little light stalking never hurt!  People love to talk about their lifestyle, likes and dislikes and lots of other information.  I actually found out my sister wanted to take a baking class while I was looking at her Facebook page.  Imagine her surprise when I was able to give her the baking set she needed for school.
  • When in doubt, go generic!  This is not my top option but if you just have no idea what to purchase for your recipient, get them a Visa or Amex gift card. These cards are accepted everywhere and you can purchase just about everything.

Beautiful Jewelry For Women

Beautiful Jewelry For Women

I love giving beautiful jewelry for women.  I especially love pieces that are so beautiful and unique that people can’t help but ask you where you got your ring, necklace or earrings.  I found one of the most unique jewelry designers and her name is Charity Stewart and she is the artist behind Momma Mosaics.  Charity has been working with the art of mosaics for more than 10 years and the materials she uses are Murano Millefiori and recycled glass.  On her website, Charity explains that Millefiori is Italian for “a thousand flowers”, and is an ancient technique where glass rods are fused together then sliced to reveal beautiful flower-like patterns.  The jewelry from Momma Mosaics is some of the most breathtaking art I have ever seen.  I received the Black and White Rectangle Necklace ($55.0). I tried to capture how intricate the details are, but my camera just could not translate it as well as I hoped!  As you can see from my picture, even the neighborhood slug likes to look at Charity’s jewelry!  So, when you are shopping for a beautiful and unusual gift, look no further!
