- Pizza dough: 20 ounces
- Olive oil: 5 tablespoons
- Red pepper flakes
- Italian sausages: 4
- Medium mushrooms: 5 (cut into ¼ slices)
- Sliced bell pepper: 4 (cut into ¼ slices)
- Sliced onions: 2 (cut into ¼ slices)
- Parmesan cheese: 4 tablespoons (grated)
- Shredded Mozzarella: ½ cup
- Pepperoni slices: 14
- Provolone cheese: 5 slices
- Pizza sauce: ½ cup

Upside, down deep skillet pizza, is extremely easy to make; all you need to do is stay true to the recipe and play with the ingredients whenever possible. Follow the below steps to get the perfect upside-down deep skillet pizza.
Before starting with anything, you must take your pizza dough out from the freezer or packet and keep it at room temperature. This will allow the pizza dough to become soft and gooey.
Now preheat your oven at 400 degrees F and place the dough on the top rack in an upright position (different from normal pizza dough).
Leave the dough to heat and take out your skillet. Add a tablespoon of olive oil in it and cook sausages and pepper flakes at medium heat. Cook until the meat is browned. It will start releasing its juices when it starts cooking. Put a strainer over a bowl and take out the meat.
Add a tablespoon of olive oil into the skillet and this time, cook all the mushrooms till they get light brown color. Once the mushroom is cooked properly, take it out into a bowl and leave its fat in the skillet, don’t strain it.
Now it’s time to cook onions and bell pepper. For this, add another tablespoon of olive oil and add all the onions and pepper. Cook everything for at least, and when you think they are thoroughly cooked, take it out on a plate and switch off the burner. Don’t forget to wipe off the excess oil from the onions and peppers.
Now that your pan is off the heat, you can start preparing upside-down pizza. Start layering the pepper and onion at the bottom. And the next layer would be of pepperoni. You can top all the ingredients according to your preference.
On the top of the dough, place the mushroom slices, and the drained sausages. Make sure to fill the edges completely.
Now the exciting phase comes in where you add the cheese. On the top of the dough, sprinkle Parmesan cheese and then Mozzarella and in the end provolone. Keep the cheese slices in an overlapping position on the pan.
Take the sauce and pour it all over the dough till the edges of the pan, so that it can reach to every corner of the dough. Make sure everything is perfectly aligned like it should be.
The most difficult step that requires your utmost attention is when you transfer the dough into the plate. Take your cutting board and drizzle some oil over it, and spread the dough out. Lift the dough slowly and put it into the pan, make sure to cover the edges properly. Now brush the remaining sauce over the top of the dough.
Put the pan with the dough into the oven, which was preheating. Bake it for 20-25 minutes till it gets a golden brown color. Once it is baked, remove the pan and out your upside-down pizza on the pan. It would be best if you flipped the pan, so it comes out in an upright position.
After taking it out, bake it for another 15 minutes to get perfectly crisp edges. When you bring it out the last time, sprinkle the remaining parmesan cheese on it.
