What Is BPA And Why Is It Bad

While I was researching reusable bottles, I wondered, “What is BPA and why is it bad for you?  If you type in “reusable bottles” in your search engine, you will see BPA mentioned a lot.  I had no idea what it was and even scarier is I had no idea if and why it was harmful to myself and my family.  I started out researching how to save the planet which led to me searching for ways to protect my family.  If you are using glasses, utensils or dishes in your kitchen, there could be potentially harmful chemicals in them.  Because the chemicals are odorless and tasteless, you would never know you were slowly ingesting toxins.  Here are a few interesting facts I found:

  • BPA stands for bisphenol A. BPA is an industrial chemical used to make plastics and resins for over 45 years.
  •  BPA can transfer into your foods or drinks from plastic containers made with BPA or into your body when you touch plastics made with BPA.
  • Be cautious when microwaving plastic containers, as this will break down the BPA more easily.
  • Some companies who make stainless steel bottles use a thin, clear lining to the inside of the bottle that may contain BPA.  Look for the No. 7 recycle symbol at the bottom of the container, which indicates there is BPA in the lining.  If you choose to use glass drinking bottles, you can avoid the BPA issue completely.  One company in particular has designed a completely unique and fantastic glass bottle and they are Pure Glass Bottle.
