Studies show that the average woman currently owns 19 pairs of shoes and will own 469 in their lifetime. Of those 19 pairs, 5 are heels, 6 are sandals, flip flops, flats and wedges, 3 are boots and 5 are for special occasion, and are with a heel of at least 2″. Women will pay on average $53 for a pair of casual shoes and will spend $76 on a pair of shoes for those special occasions. While most retail sales have been down over the last few years, the footwear industry has actually seen an increase in sales. The special occasion is defined as weddings, office parties, first dates, clubbing and any other get together in that genre. So, the question many ask is “Why do women love shoes so much?” Here is what recent studies have shown:
- Mood Alterations: A research by psychologists has found that dopamine, the neurotransmitter in the brain that releases the feel good sensations we feel, goes up when we buy apparel. This high is compared to that felt when taking drugs and is justified as an item of need as we must wear shoes every day of the week. Another interesting fact is that when we buy shoes, a part of our brain which is called the collecting spot is activated This part of the brain is what makes many people buy and collect like items such as shoes.
- Elevated Height:Another psychological aspect of buying shoes is that when we buy high heels, our feelings of euphoria rise. One theory for this is that we associate height with power and and high heels definitely raise our status by making us taller.
- Physical Changes: When women wear shoes, they do have certain physical changes that take place. We stand taller, even in a pair of low heeled or flat shoes, our posture improves and our legs look longer.
- When Times Are Tough: Well, as the saying goes, when things get tough, women like to buy things. We do this for two reasons: it makes us feel better and it makes us feel as if things are not as bad as they seem. When we are able to buy a cute pair of shoes at a very reasonable price, we feel as if we have beaten the system so to speak.
Why Do Women Love Shoes So Much?
I love shoes as much as the next girl and over the years I have spent a small fortune. I think the reason for why do women love shoes so much is because they are so much fun to buy as well as to wear. I mean, we all know how shoes can totally change the look of an outfit, right?! Now that I am working from home and have this injured foot I am trying to heal, high heels are not in my future. Instead, I am looking for shoes that will be stylish as well as sturdy.
I was recently offered a pair of shoes from PlanetShoes.com and I decided to choose a pair from the Patagonia line. I chose the Better Clog Curve from Patagonia for its sleek design and sophisticated look. The full grain leather upper and the pigskin lining make these clogs fit like a beautiful glove. They are comfortable, lightweight, has a forefoot flex, a cushioned insole and the outer sole is of recycled rubber. I absolutely love how these shoes feel and look because they look great with a pair of jeans, a pair of dressier casual pants or a flirty dress. You can find the Better Clog Curve on PlanetShoes.com for $125.00, along with the many other styles and brands from PlanetShoes.com. Planet Shoes is partnering with Patagonia to support the World Wildlife Fund. For every pair of Patagonia shoes sold on PlanetShoes.com , Patagonia will donate $10 to the WWF.
