I cannot believe we are at the end of this incredible journey as a KotexMom with U by Kotex Tween. I have enjoyed this trip and I know Caitlin and Anna enjoyed it as well. Each of us took something different with us, but I can tell you that it also brought us closer together. I have loved having the quality time with the girls that I may not have otherwise had the pleasure to have. I felt honored to hold Anna’s hand as we walked through this mystifying thing called “your period”. With a child who has special needs, it is sometimes difficult to know if they truly understand the content you are trying to teach them. Thankfully, Anna and Caitlin are only 6 months apart, so if Anna didn’t understand something we covered while having our period discussion, Caitlin was there to fill in the holes for her. Anne got her period right after we began the U by Kotex Tween posts and Caitlin got hers at the end!
I wish I convey to you what an incredibly useful and wonderful tool the U by Kotex Tween website has been for the girls as well as me. If you have a young girl in your life that has not yet started or has started her period recently, I encourage you to browse through the wealth of information you will find on the U by Kotex Tween website. I think the girl’s really connected to the videos of girls their age talking openly and honestly about their experiences. There is such a great balance between facts, fun and information that it made the experience much more pleasant and easier than I thought it would be. In the back of my mind, I wondered how much the girl’s got out of the experience until the night Caitlin started her period. It was right before bed and she came in my room and closed the door and said “Um Mom, I think I started my period”. What a surreal moment that was!! I was transported back in time to when I was almost 14 and telling my mom the same thing! I asked Caitlin if she had any questions and she said, “No Mom, I got all the information I needed from the U by Kotex Tween website. Duh”. I guess she put me in my place in a way only a teenage girl can do!
So, I thank the creative genius behind the U by Kotex Tween interactive website for taking the fear and stigma out of getting your period. I think it also has opened doors for girls and their moms, or other adult women in their lives, to begin a dialogue that will set the tone for future milestones in their lives. So, I just want to say; U by Kotex Tween Rocks!!
I encourage you to visit the U by Kotex website, so when the young lady in your life asks her questions about her period; you will be ready to answer them all!!
