FRANKENWEENIE is now in a theater in your community! Tim Burton does it again with the black and white stop film animation which was released to the public on October 5, 2012. The above picture was taken at Walt Disneyland The Art of Exhibition and is the actual set used to create the film. It is the classic boy loves dog, boy loses dog, boy brings dog back to life story. Well all except the brings dog back to life part, and everyone who has ever lost a pet would understand the drive for someone to attempt such a crazy feat.
Young Victor was completely distraught when his beloved pet was taken prematurely from him. He was Victor’s best bud, and Victor was not going to let a silly little thing like death get in the way of their friendship. Sparked with the knowledge from his school science teacher, Mr. Rzykruski, Victor employs the ol’ Frankenstein trick and literally “sparks” life into ol’ Sparky.
Now imagine, a boy, his once dead dog, a mean neighbor, a jealous classmate or two and few weird kids thrown together in only a way Tim Burton can. There are crazy monsters, surprises, and a love story all with the fairy tale ending. The film is just perfect for the upcoming season. Frankenweenie is age-appropriate for grade school on up even though I would let both my toddlers enjoy the film. They have both already seen the trailer and own the dogs, so they cannot wait until we go.
I am not normally a fan of 3D movies because I feel they often distract me from the story line, but Frankenweenie was well-done and I forgot I was even watching a 3D movie as I became entranced with what might happen next. I really love how this might be the beginning of black and white films making a come back.
