It’s hard to believe that one of my absolute favorite Christmas movies has been around longer than I have! That’s right, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer has actually been around for 50 years! I grew up in a household that cherished holiday traditions and loved creating new memories. My younger brother and I would camp out in front of the TV with tons of pillows and blankets on the floor while our mom and dad sat up on the couch with a plate of Christmas cookies. First we would watch Frosty the Snowman, knowing that soon enough, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer would be coming on. Once Rudolph started we were glued to the TV, following the 9th reindeer through the land of misfit toys and finally becoming the hero of Christmas by leading Santa’s sleigh.
Starting New Traditions With Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
Now that I have a family of my own, these traditions will carry over. I can’t wait to snuggle up on the couch with Chris and Aidan to watch Rudolph. He was a bit too young to appreciate it last year, but I am positive that this year will be different. Not only will it be different because of Aidan’s age and newly acquired attention span, but I’ll also have a new little girl to snuggle with!
As if 50 years wasn’t an achievement enough, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is the longest-running and highest-rated holiday TV special of all time. It would only seem appropriate that this be celebrated in a special way. This anniversary celebration includes a tie-in with the USPS, a special tribute from CBS, a collector’s edition DVD, a musical, theme park and mall campaign and of course a social media campaign focusing on PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group is also releasing 6 new Rudolph-themed books a Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer: The Classic Story. These books are made for a variety of age groups, from 2-12, and follow Rudolph through his many adventures. One lucky reader will have a chance to win the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer book bundle, worth $50, by filling out the entry form below!
