I have heard from several friends that choosing the right Valentine’s Day gifts were tough for them.  What I found interesting was that it didn’t matter if they had been in a relationship for a while or were just beginning; they all had issues with this.  My husband is one of those men who really do not like receiving gifts, which is fine if it is his birthday or Father’s Day.  The problem is that since he doesn’t like to get gifts, he assumes no one likes to get gifts!  Sadly, if I do get something, it is usually something he picked up at the grocery store on his way home from work!  Since this seems to be a problem across the board, I wanted to see if there were any tips out there to help make choosing a bit easier.

Choosing The Right Valentine’s Day Gifts

  •  How Deep Is The Relationship: There is a huge difference between a couple who have been married 1 years and one who have been dating for 15 days.  Of course you are going to get something more meaningful for the longer relationship.  To avoid any awkward moments, be sure you and your love are on the same page.  You don’t want to surprise your girl with a diamond ring when she thought you were just friends,
  • Is Lingerie A Good Choice: Buying your love lingerie can be tricky, so you need to be clear on a few points.  If you have just begun dating and you buy lingerie, your date may feel you are stepping up your game and they aren’t ready.  Remember men buy lingerie for different reasons than women who buy their own.  Base your choices with the level of comfort and intimacy you currently have with your partner.
  • Practical Is Not Romantic: Just because your lover has indicated they need a new vacuum, does not mean you should buy them one for Valentine’s Day.  The only exception to this rule is if your partner tells you ahead of time it is ok to do so.  I needed a vacuum cleaner in a big way and told my husband I would not be insulted if that is what he gave me.
  • Sentimental: If your Valentine loves a thoughtful and sentimental gift, there are many avenues you can take with this.  I know most of the women I talked to said they loved receiving jewelry, The spilt on the jewelry issue was about 50% wanted something with a lot of bling that made a big statement.  The other 50% said they preferred something more sentimental and simple.  My kids are my life, so any gift that refers to them is welcomed.  Where should you send your partner to find you the best jewelry?
