Thomas Fitzsimmons

I have been slacking off in my reading recently and was looking for a good read.  The opportunity to read Confessions of a Catholic Cop by Thomas Fitzsimmons came at a great time.  I was so excited the day the book arrived, only problem was it was the middle of the day and I couldn’t sit down to read it because my two little ones were demanding my time.  So after I put them to bed that night, it was me and the book!  The book is a work of fiction but was inspired by real events.  I was hooked after the first page and a couple of hours flew by and I couldn’t stop turning the pages.  It was getting late and I had to get up early with the kids so I had to put it down!  So each night after the kids were in bed I read until on the 4th night I was finished.  I typically don’t read a book that fast but it called to me everyday and I looked forward to that time each night were I could relax and get lost in the story.  I loved the book, it made me happy, sad, made me laugh and cry…I felt on the edge of my seat and that’s one of the things I love about reading…it makes you hunger for more.

The story is about a Beckett, a police officer in a really terrible part of New York, the South Bronx.  The story takes you on a journey right along with him and his partner day in and day out from the roll call at the precinct to the string of arson’s and shoot outs.  It’s an eye opener to see how the crime and corruption is all interlinked with politicians, businessmen and the judicial system (from judges, DAs, detectives and beat cops).  Although not everyone is corrupt, Beckett is trying to figure out what’s going on with the arson’s, who’s behind them and to stop them.  There are several people who are trying to deter him from doing his job.  I am not going to spoil the ending…its twists and turns kept me on my toes!  You can purchase a copy of this book at for $14.00 plus shipping.  I look forward to reading more of Fitzsimmons work including: The Defective Detective, The Made Man and Never Fire a Warning Shot.  Check him out on Facebook.
