Dress For Your Body Type

Well ladies, spring has sprung and it is about dang time! I was so tired of being buried underneath all that cold snow! I think if we had seen any more cold weather, I was going to turn my house in to an igloo and become an Eskimo! When I think of spring, I think of beautiful flowers in bloom and the Dogwood trees with their gorgeous colors. It also means Mother’s Day is around the corner, which is my day for pampering! We usually go out for brunch or dinner and I wanted to wear something pretty and new. I have not been dress shopping in a while and was not sure how to find the perfect dress for your body type. Here is a simple guide to help you decide which dress suits you best!

How To Find The Right Dress Pin

How To Find The Right Dress For Your Body Type

  1. Apple: This body type is when you carry most of your weight around your middle, with your waist being your widest measurement. To balance your proportions, choose a shift dress with some tailoring. The boxy cut of this dress will add structure and the loose silhouette will not cling to or emphasize your middle.
  2. Pear: This woman has a smaller upper body with a slender neck, narrow shoulders, and a small bust. Your lower portion is fuller with generous hips and thighs. For the most flattering look for this body type, you should shop for a dress which plays up your slender waist or adds volume at the top while minimizing the hip and thigh area.
  3. Hourglass: If this is you, your body is more like the sexy and classic pinup girl. You have an ample chest, a smaller waist and generous hips, thighs and booty! You should keep your dress shapes simple, and let your curves work that wrap, shirt style or fitted column dress with a wild graphic print.
  4. Rectangle: This body type, also known as boyish, is when your shoulders, waist, and hips are all about the same measurement. A dress with soft lines and beautiful movement will add a feminine quality to your figure. A slightly higher neckline will flatter your shoulders and elongate your frame.

Coming Up Roses Dress

I am in a bit of a conundrum when it comes to figuring out which body type I am. I feel I am an hourglass who has apple type tendencies.  I have a larger chest and my waist is smaller and I have some hips on me, that is for sure! But I also have a little too much weight around my middle to say I have a true hourglass figure. For me, I feel most comfortable in a dress which has more flow to it to hide my tummy area but a V-neck to show off my girls! I found the perfect dress at Poppy and Bloom, a chic and funky online boutique for women with curves! I am absolutely in love with this new clothing line for women in the 14W-24W size range. As the website states, this is a line full of real style for real curves!

I chose the Coming Up Roses Maxi Dress, which sells for $160 on the Poppy and Bloom website. This floral pattern reminded me of spring and I love the solid black top with the super sexy plunging V-neck. The dress is soft, flowing, incredibly comfortable, impeccably well made and is lined, which I love. The entire spring collection is full of whimsy, fun, sass and class! You will feel like a star when you go out on the town with your beau, meet your girlfriends for lunch or meet with your boss over drinks. The spring line is full of colorful prints and cute graphics like the retro looking Curtsey and Bow print dress. I am incredibly honored and proud to be representing a line which is inspired and made for women by women.
