Five Tips To Easily Remove Carpet Stains

Depending on when your house or apartment was built, your floors could be covered in a variety of materials. Many of the newer homes are using a Berber carpet that hides stains and dirt, which is perfect for high traffic areas. Another great solution for homes that get a lot of traveling on their floors are the affordable laminate floors that look like hardwoods. If you have an older home, you probably have a low pile carpet, and the odds are, it is in a light color. Apparently there was a sale on light tan carpet in the 1980’s and 1990’s because it is everywhere! If you have a couple of kids and a pet or two, stains are just waiting to happen. If that is the case, try these tips:

Five Tips To Easily Remove Carpet Stains

  1. Carpet Protection: If possible, be proactive and head to the home supply store and get a can or two of fabric guard that is made for carpets. This will help repel many potential stains, making it easier to remove carpet stains.
  2. Blot: If you have spilled liquid, blot as soon as you can, preferably with a white or light colored cloth. Continue to blot until you have gotten as much liquid up as you can.
  3. Pre-Treat: If you have a sauce, food, blood or other enzyme stain, pre-treat with the appropriate ingredient. For instance, if you have spilled ink, a mixture of baking soda and vinegar can lift a lot of it up out of the carpet, making it less of a hassle to clean.
  4. Heat: If you have a stain with a red base, like fruit punch or koolaid, you can take the stain away with an iron. Take a white cloth and place on top of the stain. Heat the iron to low-medium and count to 15 and lift. Move around the stain and continue to count and move until the stain is removed or at least lighter.
  5. Carpet Cleaning Machine: Everyone with carpets of any color should have a carpet cleaning machine. If you have pets or kids, the floor cleaning products from Bissell are perfect for your needs.

Laminate flooring is extremely stain-resistant and requires very little routine care and maintenance, freeing up your own time to flake out by the pool. The tips you have mentioned are easy and useful to remove carpet stains.
