As per the usual with my kids, they are completely over everything they have to play with. They are sick of playing their video games and I am not paying $35-$50 per game to stock them up with new ones. They have seen “every cartoon ever made”, or so they tell me and the same goes for Netflix and Hulu Plus. They are “bored” with their “board” games and it is too hot to jump on the trampoline. It is apparently too hot to bike, skate, skateboard, or ride a scooter as well. It came as no surprise when I found out July was Anti-Boredom Month. I decided to take matters into my own hands before I lost my sanity and headed out to my local Dollar General. I knew I could find something to keep the kids busy which would not cost me an arm and a leg.
I love Dollar General because they have a humongous variety of personal care products, items for the home and plenty of stuff for kids. They had a ton of pool and water toys, which I had already gotten them several of at the beginning of the summer. I was able to stock up on pool toys for less than $20, which was enough for 4 kids. Dollar General has plenty of summer essentials to keep your kids happy and beat those summer boredom ho hums. I decided to get some supplies so I could do some gardening with kids.
I must say, as easily as my kids can say “Mom, I am bored”, Dollar General can say “We got you covered mom!”. I found everything I needed for the kids to have a great afternoon of gardening. I chose a pair of gloves, a small spade and a hand rake, a watering can, seeds, pots and even potting soil. I was blown away at the number of items Dollar General had to offer. We had an entire aisle stocked full of essentials we needed for gardening for kids. There could not be a better store than Dollar General which says “Ha Ha” to boredom. The kids loved getting their hands dirty (so to speak as we had gardening gloves) and planting some seeds. We chose peppers, beans, cauliflower and spinach to plant in our sturdy plastic planters. I could not believe these planters were only 2 for $1! What a great bargain! Our gloves and gardening tools were less than $5 combined and the potting soil was less than at the local home goods store. The kids had a great time planting and watering their seeds. I cannot wait to see what sprouts in the next several days and see the kids tend after their little container garden!
Dollar General also has plenty of supplies for the kids to color, make a fun craft, bake a cake or BBQ with dad. Because it only took one afternoon for us to plant our little garden, the kids want to go back and get some supplies to help cook dinner on the grill with dad! Thank goodness Dollar General has plenty of tools for the grill as we just bought a new grill and have nothing to cook with!
