While in Hamburg Germany over the summer, my brother and I attended the Hamburg Wasser World Triathlon. It is the world’s biggest triathlon where the participants compete in the sprint distance (0,5km/22km/5km), the olympic distance (1,5km/40km/10km) or a relay. The course is mapped through the city center along Alster, Elbchaussee and Rathausmarkt. Our viewing point was in front of the Marriott who was the exclusive Hamburg triathlon catering partner for athletes and fans.
The ITU World Triathlon is part of the process for athletes to qualify for the Olympics as well as a race for us normal people to join as well. It was very exciting for me to watch as the United States ran a very close race, but the tears were flowing as the last participants of the “everybody race.”
