Birthday parties are a huge deal in my house. I love my kids; I gave birth to them, and the fact that these wonderful humans even exist, is worth celebrating! My sister and I are 11 1/2 months apart and my mom always combined our birthdays and I hated that. It just made me feel less special on my special day when she did that. I swore to myself I would not do that to my kids. I wanted them to know how wonderful and amazing they are and I would throw a party worthy of that. My husband teases me because my kids do not just have a birth-day but a birth-month! I honestly have a whole month of fun things planned to draw the whole experience out as much as I can. One of my favorite parts of planning a birthday party is ordering the cake because I LOVE cake! I think there is a bit of a science behind making sure you get the right cake for your special occasion. Here are a few tips to help when you have your next birthday party, or any occasion for that matter.
Four Ways To Pick The Perfect Birthday Cake
- Size: It is important to know how may people you are feeding befire you can order your cake. This is really your stepping off point for the rest of the steps to ordering that perfect cake.
- Budget: Cakes can cost a pretty penny, so setting a budget is very important. A birthday cake can cost anywhere from $10 to over $100, so decide how much you are willing to spend.
- Bakery: Choose your bakery well! There is noting worse than ordering a cake from a place you have never used, showing up on the day of the party and finding the cake not done or done poorly, both of which I have had happen. Choose someone you trust, like Baskin Robbins, who is known for their professionally designed cakes for any occasion.
- Type and Flavor: Do you want a round cake, a square cake, a sheet cake? So you want an ice cream cake or a traditional cake with ice cream on the side? What flavor so you want? You need to choose a flavor you know most of the party goers will eat. You do not want to choose raspberry peanut butter ganache and have most of your cake still there, uneaten at the end of the party.
When we are trying to figure out how to choose the right birthday cake, I always think of Baskin Robbins first. They have been around since 1945, as a dream of two brothers-in-law, Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins. they wanted to create a unique gathering place where families could hang out and enjoy an old fashioned treat; ice cream. It was not really a stretch for either man as they both has a back ground in the ice cream business. After going the separate route initially, within 3 years, they decided to join forces. Something Irv and Burt did that was revolutionary at the time, was to allow the management to have ownership in the store, which would later become known as franchising. The rest is delicious history and I could not be happier, as their Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream got me through 3 pregnancies!
For Caitlin’s Sweet 16 birthday party, we decided immediately on Baskin Robbins for her cake. With more than 6 locations nearby, we were able to find a store most convenient. We decided on the Delectable Designer Bag Cake, which feeds 6-8 and sells for $25. This was perfect for our needs, fit Caitlin’s fashionista personality to a “T” and it is super cute! We were able to customize our cake with our favorite cake and ice cream flavor as well as the color of the cake. And I was able to do this with less than 24 hours notice, which is not recommended, as most stores need 48 hours notice. My cake was ready on time, the owner of the store was super sweet and got us in and out in less than 10 minutes. The cake was a huge hit of Caitlin’s party and I could not be happier with the results! For your next party or get together, be it a birthday, anniversary, new job, baby or whatever you can think of, just give your local Baskin Robbins a call. With their convenient online ordering option, you may be able to save yourself a phone call and order from your computer or mobile device!
