This is a sponsored post. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I had orthodontic braces when I was a kid, so I can speak about braces with experience. I had a severe overbite. When I say severe, I mean that I could insert my thumb in between my bottom and top teeth while my mouth was closed. Wow! Right? So, I got “metal-mouthed” in 5th grade. At first I thought it was cool. I was one of the only kids in the school to get braces, and I was liked by many kids. They all thought it was pretty neat and wanted braces too. I was lucky, some other kids got teased for getting a mouth full of metal at a young age. So teasing isn’t what I remember the most, it was the pain. OMG! It hurt so bad. I used to cut my lip on the braces all of the time. I had to go to the doctors office every month, sometimes twice a month too! I wish I had the choice of Invisalign 25 years ago.
Did you know that a clear aligner like Invisalign can have many advantages when compared to metal orthodontic braces? The cost is still pretty much the same but, the Invisalign treatment usually requires less trips to the treatment office with shorter appointments. Also no cute lips from broken wires or brackets. The irritation from the metal wires and brackets that I had all of the time would not even be a factor with a treatment that did not use wires and brackets right? And no crazy headgear to fear! I was fortunate enough not to have to ever wear the dreaded headgear, but it was a valid and very real worry that I had every time I went to my orthodontist.
Among the new advances in orthodontia, removable aligners, like Invisalign & Invisalign Teen, are fast becoming a popular choice. The system uses a series of clear aligners made of lightweight plastic that sit smoothly on the teeth allowing for a more comfortable fit and they work as effectively as traditional metal braces. Because the aligners can be removed, kids can eat, brush and floss as they would normally. Teens can smile with confidence while straightening their teeth since this treatment, unlike traditional metal braces, is virtually invisible. Braces are a rite of passage for many kids, and thanks to 21st century technology such as Invisalign Teen, patients can watch their winning smile evolve instead of waiting to see the final result when the traditional metal brackets come off. Invisalign patients can start to see improvements and progress in as little as 90 days.
From what I have read, Invisalign works as well as braces. You can see for yourself by reading How Invisalign Works. I do know that when I recently went to the dentist, I was referred to a periodontist for a degenerative gum problem on one of my front teeth. I now have to have surgery on half of my face to repair the gum. Do you know what he says is the main cause? The bracket that I had on that tooth from when I wore braces!
