Movies Made Into Musicals
With school coming to an end for the year, this is the time many students will be performing in their school musicals. Were you in any musicals or plays when you were in high school? If so, did you act, sing, dance or were you so talented you did all three?! Many of the schools will do plays which are based on popular movies or books. In honor of this time of the year, Netflix has a list of great movies this month which have been turned into fantastic musicals. There are plenty of choices for everyone in the house from the youngest to the oldest and everyone in between! Here is a list of just a handful of movies made into musicals you can see this month on Netflix:

For the younger kids:

  • Mulan: In this Disney movie, Mulan disguises herself as a boy soldier named “Ping” to take her father’s place in the Imperial Army.
  • Pocahontas: This is the first Disney movie to be based on actual historic characters. It features Pocahontas, the daughter of a Native American tribe chief who falls in love with an English soldier named John Smith.
  • Rock-A-Doodle: This rousing musical will have the young ones tapping their toes! Chanticleer is a rocking and rolling singing rooster who keeps all the farm animals happy with his singing. That is until one day he oversleeps and he loses his ability to crow.

For the older kids/adults:

  • Shrek The Musical: If you loved the popular movie about the lovable ogre who marries princess Fiona, you will love this musical. Filled with lots of hilarity and catchy tunes, Shrek The Musical is sure to be a family favorite.
  • High School Musical: If you have any Zac Efron or Vanessa Hudgins fans in the house, they have surely seen this wildly popular film trilogy from Disney. The original, which aired in 2006, became the most successful Disney Channel Original Movie.
  • Footloose: This was a hugely popular movie from 1984 starring Kevin Bacon, which was made into a musical in 1998. The main character, Ren McCormack, a teen from Chicago, moves to a small town where dancing and rock music have been banned.
