As a person who loves social media, it is hard to not get caught up in all of the outlets that are available to join. There seems to be new ones popping up on a fairly frequent basis.  Some whose purpose is to get you connected with the public in general while other’s main purpose is to help you reconnect with old friends and family members.

New Social Media Networking Sites

In the process of getting connected to new social media networking sites, have you ever joined a few too many and then feel as though you are getting bombarded by email notifications? That has definitely happened on more than one occasion to me. When I join a new social media outlet, I like to test it out for at least a month to get a good feel for the site and then see if it is advantageous for me to continue on with it.

Sites I have used for connecting with friends and family include Facebook, My Space, Tagged, and My Life. My Space was, at one time, the go to site for making connections. Then Facebook came along and really cornered the market on a social media site that connects people throughout the world. However, each site has its own unique advantages and disadvantages.

When I join a site that is supposed to have the Facebook feel to it, one of the first things I do is look for friends who have joined. If the site does not pick up any friends I have on Facebook or Twitter, I tend to not be too confident in the quality of the site. Also, if the site is too spammy I usually do not continue on with it for very long either.

Sites that you determine are not a good fit for you are the ones where you will want to delete your profile. This will help to prevent further email from clogging you inbox, plus the less sites with all of your information out there the better. Most sites have a direct link for unsubscribing. Although I know for My Life you have to go to MyLife Refund to remove your account.

Are there any new social media networking sites you are testing out that are making the cut? We would love hear about them.
