Non-Stick Silicone Baking Mat
I have been looking into a non-stick silicone baking mat for a while now. I have the worst luck when it comes to choosing the right bakeware and when I get home; I have a hard time keeping it from burning. It seems no matter when temperature I set the oven at, my cookie sheets always come out scorched and ruined. Yes you can cook on a burnt cookie sheet, but from then on, the food will cook unevenly and the bottoms will burn just about every time. I didn’t want to replace all of my bakeware, so I wanted to find an alternative to spending all that money. That is when I came across the idea of a non-stick silicone baking mat for my baking needs. I love this idea!
Silpat® is the creation of M. Guy Demarle, who in 1965 founded his own company in Northern France. Mr. Demarle was a baker and was looking for a better way to bake baguette bread that is so popular in France. What he came up with was a silicone mat that was perfect for baking all sorts of delicious foods. To this day, the Demarle Company is dedicated to designing the best silicone and non-stick products for both residential as well as commercial use. In 1993, Sasa Demarle, Inc. was born in the USA to serve this market and make the Demarle products more accessible and economical to distribute in the USA. All of the Silpat® products are made in France and are based in Wavrin, France.
I was really interested in finding non-stick alternatives to the bakeware I have been using. When I found that Silpat® had a wonderful solution to my problem, I was quite interested in trying it out. The half-sheet Silpat® ($24.99) fits perfectly on a standard cookie sheet. All you do is lay the Silpat® baking mat on a cookie sheet or other piece of bakeware and put your cookie (or whatever mix you are using) and bake at the temperature as outlined on the recipe. I was very pleasantly surprised when our cookies came out perfectly! It has been a long time since I have been able to pull out my cookies at the correct time and find them cooked. I have been taking them out early so they won’t burn as much, but this means they aren’t cooked all the way through. Without sticking at all! The cookies we made slid off the mat Caitlin and I were cleaning the kitchen and all we did was rinse off the Silpat® mat and we were done!! This item has been such a huge help in our kitchen. I cannot wait to try out more of the Silpat® products!!
