Recently my husband and I had a discussion about recipes for the holidays. After 15 years of marriage, he finally admitted he didn’t like turkey! Can you believe he chocked down something he didn’t care for just to make me happy! We had a good laugh and then talked about what we could do differently this coming holiday. It was just going to be the 4 of us this year, so we didn’t need to worry over what my family may or may not like from our new menu. Here are a few awesome recipes we came up with that we can’t wait to try:
Quick And Easy Holiday Meals Changes
- Change Your Vegetables: If you typically serve the traditional buttered peas, green bean casserole and sweet potatoes, try something different this year. We love corn on the cob, so we decided there was not better time to serve it than with one of our favorite meals. We are also crazy for asparagus and breaded eggplant, so we decided we would serve these yummy additions. Don’t forget about bringing some of your favorite veggies and make a yummy roulade.
- Change Your Dessert: Instead of your traditional pecan or pumpkin pie, there are many delicious sweet treats you can make that are well loved at many other times of the year. Why not a home-made apple pie with freshly made cinnamon vanilla ice cream? For that matter, go really out of the box and have a sundae for dessert. Just bring out all of the toppings and have a buffet!
- Change Your Protein: Who said you had to have turkey as the main protein at your holiday feast. There are endless possibilities you can choose like a lovely steak in a burgundy wine sauce or perhaps a beautiful roast slow cooked in a crock pot with all the yummy fixings. This year, I looked to my favorite food delivery company; Omaha Steaks. If anyone had some delicious alternatives for a holiday dinner, they certainly would!
Cooking The Perfect Steak
Since we received such great cuts of meat from Omaha Steaks, we wanted to find a recipe for cooking the perfect steak. I was surprised to find that cooking your steak on the stove in a cast iron skillet would give you a melt in your mouth piece of meat. We received The Ideal Gift which included: 2 (5 oz.) Filet Mignons, 2 (5 oz.) Top Sirloins, 4 (4 oz.) Boneless Pork Chops, 4 ( 4oz.) Omaha Steaks Burgers, 4 Stuffed Baked Potatoes, and 1 Chocolate Lover’s Cake. The regular price for this package is $152.00, but was on sale for ($59.99). For dinner last night, we cooked the yummy filet mignon’s and the stuffed baked potatoes. The filets were cut beautifully and Chris cooked them to a perfect medium rare. The stuffed baked potatoes were a perfect compliment to the steaks. I loved the bacon and cheese that were mixed together in a fluffy and delicious potato. Remember when you visit the Omaha Steaks home page; you will see a lot more content than just meat! You can also find seafood, chicken, pork, complete meals, side dishes and even desserts!
