While on a recent business trip to New York City, I had the pleasure of staying at one of the finest hotels. The Benjamin New York mixes the charm of years past with the modern flair of today just beautifully. The hotel was started by Benjamin “Bud” Denihan, a visionary and entrepreneur. Bud oversaw his dad’s small laundry in the 1930’s and grew the business over the years. His clients would include such greats as Marilyn Monroe, the Vanderbilt family and Hattie Carnegie. In 1999 Bud acquired a building located on 50th Street and Lexington and named the hotel The Benjamin, in honor of its founder.
While I was in my meeting, I mentioned to one of the other bloggers where I was staying. She told me The Benjamin was known as a “Sleeping” hotel and I said I thought all hotels were for sleeping. She said this hotel in particular was designed to give their guests the best possible sleep. I did some research and it turns out The Benjamin has a sleep expert on their staff! Rebecca Robbins is the Official Sleep Consultant with The Benjamin and heads their Sleep Team. It is their goal to provide you with the most up-to-date solutions and tools for a great night’s sleep, which are founded in sleep medicine. You can actually order from their pillow menu the pillow you feel suits your sleeping needs best. You can choose from a Swedish memory pillow, an anti-snore (which my husband needs lol), a water pillow or a 5 foot body pillow! I can attest that Rebecca and her team are spot on because I had the most restful night’s sleep in a long time at The Benjamin!
If you are looking for a fantastic place to eat, look no further than the award winning National restaurant. The National is the delicious creation of my favorite Iron Chef, Geoffrey Zakarian. He brings his style, passion and culinary expertise to The Benjamin with his award-winning Midtown East restaurant in NYC, The National Bar & Dining Rooms. The modern bistro menu showcases fresh and perfectly sourced ingredients set into unexpected combinations that draw out their essential flavors. You will also see Executive Chef Paul Corsentino and Executive Pastry Chef Marisa Croce.
I had a long travel day of almost 14 hours and I was ready for some food when I got to my room. I was too tired to venture down to the restaurant, so I ordered from room service. I was pleasantly surprised to see you could order room service as late as 10:30 p.m. and the selection was vast. I decided on the Pulled Chicken Sandwich with Smoked Mozzarella, Rosemary Vinaigrette, and Avocado. The sandwich was on toasted bread and was one of the most mouth watering and savory sandwiches I have ever had. I even called my husband to tell him how amazing it was and then sent him a picture as well! The greens on the side were the perfect compliment to the zesty flavors of the sandwich. Bravo Chef!
