Decorating your home during the holidays doesn’t always mean breaking out the garland and the outdoor lights. Don’t get me wrong, I look forward to using our family decorations each year. With all the visitors we have during the holiday season, I like to snazz up the house a bit as well. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on completely redecorating your house, but adding a few simple items or making subtle changes can make a big difference. Here are some great thoughts you may find inspiration from:
Decorating Your Home During The Holidays
- Make A Budget: With the extra money we spend at this time of year, you don’t need to add a lot to your already growing budget this year. You can make really nice changes that won’t cost a lot. Once you have your budget, stick to it. Keep focused on what you want to buy and don’t get sidetracked by all the shiny and pretty decor out there!
- Think Small: You don’t need to buy a new carpet or redo the bedroom to make an impact. A simple addition like a group of seasonal candles in the restroom makes a lovely statement that won’t break the bank.
- Make it a Family Affair: Get the kids and spouse to help out! You know that large glass bowl you got from Aunt Margaret that you don’t know what to do with? Have the kids go outside and gather some pine cones, add a few sticks of fresh cinnamon and you have a beautiful center piece for your table!
- Pillows: A very easy and affordable change is by adding a few new pillows. An even better idea is to buy pillow covers instead of new pillows. This will enable you to change out the look without having a stack of pillows gathering in the hall closet. My favorite place to get the most gorgeous pillow covers is My Pillow Studio. The ladies at My Pillow Studio have a very large collection of beautiful prints and colors on high end fabrics that look expensive but they are quite affordable.
Using Throw Pillows To Decorate
I love using throw pillows to decorate because they can change the look of a room in an instant. We have a brown sofa and love seat and for a good while, we had no pillows on them. Then I found My Pillow Studio while I was browsing on Etsy and I fell in love with the amazing pillows. We got two sunshine yellow and white chevron striped pillows and they just brightened up the family room instantly. When I bought my new stark white comforter, I knew where to go for a splash of color. The pillow covers I chose a beautiful abstract print with pretty hues of rose, white and gray, and they were only $21.00 each! My pillow covers look great on my bed and they are just beautiful.
One reader will win a pair of pillow covers ($15.00-$36.00 each) in their choice of fabric, based on availability.
