Finding The Right Shoes

Finding The Right Shoes

Finding the right shoes for your family is not always easy to do.  With so many shoe companies out there, it is difficult to know which are best for your needs.  Often times the right shoe for your feet can be pricey.  If you are going to spend the money on new shoes, they better fit well and feel great!!  Here are some tips to know when you go shopping for your new footwear.

  • Don’t assume you know what size you wear!!  Believe it or not, our feet can change over the years.  When I was pregnant with my first baby, my shoe size was an 8.  By the time I had my 3rd child, I was in a size 9.    If the store you shop at has the mat with all the feet on it, don’t use that to measure your feet.  With this in mind, it is best to have a knowledgeable sales person measure your feet.
  • It is not unusual to have feet that are different sizes.  If the salesperson who measures your feet indicates there is a discrepancy in your feet, you should always defer to the larger size when buying your shoes.
  • Go take a hike!!  Well, maybe just a walk around the store!  You must make sure your shoes fit properly.  Although you have had your feet measured, you still need to walk around a bit in them.  Shoe sizes can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.  Just because you are an 8, doesn’t mean you always wear an 8.  I recently bought a pair of boots that were almost an entire size smaller than my usual size.  When walking in your hoses, make sure the help does not slip up and make sure your toes have room to wiggle in.

Best Shoes For Your Feet

Best Shoes For Your Feet

Research has shown that some of the best shoes for your feet are soft soled shoes. There has been an increase in runner’s either running barefoot or shoes that are considered minimal in design.  Picture a pair of moccasins that have that great soft sole that makes your feet feel great!  Soft Star Shoes is a company that has been specializing in soft soled shoes since 1984.  In 2005 they began selling their new line, RunAmok, which were designed with the runner in mind.  I was fortunate enough to review a pair of the hand-made Mary Jane shoes in deep purple ($85.00) from Soft Star Shoes.  The first thing I noticed was the attention to detail and the excellent craftsmanship of the shoes.  Secondly, you will not believe how soft the leather of the shoes is.  When Caitlin tried her shoes on, she even said she had never worn a pair of shoes that were this comfortable.  After wearing them to school for an entire day, she came home and told me her feet did not hurt like they usually do after wearing them for an entire day.  Soft Star Shoes are really a great bargain when you factor in how long you will be wearing the shoes.
