School is out, the sun is shining and it’s time to hit the road jack. No matter how you break it down, summertime is road trip time. The way I see it these trips can only go two ways, they are either a smashing success or a miserable failure. Now I’m not saying that you need to go and plan your whole trip out to last detail to make sure that thing go right. Hell that takes all the fun out the whole concept of the road trip. Making spontaneous choices and taking a left on that dirt road instead going straight like your supposed to is the kind of thing that make road trips so memorable. That being said Being prepared for your adventure goes along way towards making your trips a success and avoid typical pitfalls of the inexperienced traveler. So take a look at my summer road trip safety guide and let the good times roll.

Gas? Check. Cooler? Check. Music? Check. Tires? Uhhhh…..

Making sure your vehicle is ready for your summertime adventures could be the single most important thing on the list as far as success or failure of said adventure is concerned. It’s a lot like if you were getting ready to do a marathon. You would make sure that you are in peak physical condition before it starts, or maybe you wouldn’t, but that’s irrelevant as to what you should do. The same goes fro your vehicle before you set out put a thousand or more miles on it in one trip in the heat of summer. the List is really simple and quite easy to remember.

  • Get Your Fluids Checked: This means all of them. Oil, transmission, even your wiper fluid. These are vital to the operation of your ride.

  • Brakes: As Important as going forth on the adventure is, it’s more important to be able to stop when it’s necessary. This also goes back to the fluids. You have brake pads and brake fluid, you need both for either to work effectively.

  • Road Safety Kit: These kits are available at just about anyplace that sell auto parts. They provide a nice packaged breakdown kit that you can usually tuck out sight and they are fairly inexpensive.

  • Tires:  If you’re going on a road trip, I would say actually staying on the road would be a high priority. There’s all kinds of crazy weather  in the summertime. I wouldn’t want to venture out without a good set of rubber.
